I don't buy it for a minute that because you worried about the Democratic nomination process is rigged! You are afraid he won't back down from you during all your insults and BS lines of untruth facts. You won't be able hide from any other debates from here on out, which either Hillary or Bernie won't be easy to push around!

(1,166 posts)That's not the way it was planned to work out, either for him or Hillary Clinton. Trump is a fake threat to the system. Sanders is a real one.

(45,780 posts)Watch the whole thing but the part I'm specifying starts at 1:05 to 1:20.
BTW, at 2:05, check out Trump BFF until AIDS, Roy Cohn, who was McCarthy's BFF until the party ended.

(660 posts)Trump is very conscious of how he appears vis-a-vis others around him. In this case, he succeeded in placing himself in a dominant position vis-a-vis Sanders. He had Sanders waiting for Trump to decide for both of them what they will be doing next week. Sanders was made to appear to be at home hoping and waiting that Trump would call and oblige Sanders by appearing at a debate with Sanders. Trump kept the ball in his court at all times. He was in control of the outcome. Sanders allowed himself to be placed in a submissive role, waiting to learn what Trump would give him. Trump loves this kind of thing. He loves to appear to be dominating and controlling everyone around him.
So, what more did Trump have to gain by an actual debate? He already demonstrated his dominance over Sanders. As far as Trump is concerned, he won the moment - he won the real debate. "Sorry, Sanders, I can't help you. I'm the nominee. You will never be my equal. Thanks for waiting for me to decide your future. I did the best I could for you. I hope you understand that."

(314 posts)Throw down a challenge, and then whimp out like Trump is doing? Well, you can make all the carnival excuses you want, but it's still a super massive Republican chicken out.

(660 posts)For Trump, everything is about appearances and dominance. Sanders very patiently and submissively waited for Trump to decide his future.
As I posted this morning, Sanders blew an opportunity to seize the initiative. He should have told Trump that there would be no fundraising involved because, quite frankly, Trump is a con man and cannot be trusted with the money. By just saying that, Sanders would be landing punches before the debate began. He should have picked a venue and a date. "Trump, you need to be at the LA Coliseum Monday night at 6 p.m. And, you need to bring a check for half the cost of renting the venue and security. You have until tomorrow at noon to either commit to being there or you will be viewed as the coward that I think you really are." I
I don't know what Trump would do, but by seizing the initiative, Sanders would have become the dominant party rather than the submissive party. And, for Trump, that is what it is all about. People who want to beat Trump need to understand that about Trump.
Trump believes he got everything that he wanted.

(82,849 posts)I carry no brief for either Sanders or Clinton, but Trump is well-advised to stay as far away from one-on-one discussions as he can. When there's nobody on the stage to deflect to, and just one other person vying for air time, Trump will not do well. If he went head-to-head with Sanders, Sanders would carve him up. Both Sanders and Clinton do something that Trump's Republican adversaries don't do very well: They both listen and respond to what their opponent says.
When there's 10 Lilliputians on the stage (or even just three) battling for air time, Trump can dominate because everyone else wants to be sure he gets his talking points in, and they don't have the luxury of time to answer Trump's nonsense. It wouldn't surprise me if Trump refuses to participate in any post-convention debates, and as bad as that will be, it won't be worse than actually getting on stage one-on-one with the Democratic nominee.

(21,719 posts)He can't debate one on one because he doesn't know anything about anything. All he can do is call names and try to brag about himself. Just try to categorize every word out of his mouth and it fits into one of those two categories
. Unless he is telling a lie, of course which makes it 3 categories.
Lets review:
1_ Name Calling
2_ Bragging
3_ Telling lies
That concludes today's lesson on Phony Donny
