Ok help me out here. Does DU have a problem with Pete Seeger singing The Song?

How about Joan Baez?
Is it ok for Bruce Springsteen to sing We Shall Overcome?

I don't expect one, but a rational explanation would be nice.

It was Oakland after all. And, of course, people who weren't there are claiming that it was all white people.
I was there. It was a very mixed crowd.
But then, some of these are the same people who would leap over corpses to berate LGBTers for quoting MLK.
So take the childish nonsense for what it is - people just looking for a fight and seeking to feel slighted in some way. LGTBers had to deal with this shit for years. "You can't have our Civil Rights movement!"
Which, yeah, way to miss the entire point of that whole thing.
I'm kicking it on Skid Row which is neutral territory for all races. Got friends of all races proresting against criminalizing homelessness in Frisco.
A lot of us on The Row are feeling The Bern.
