I'm dumbfounded. I grew up in a rural town with plenty of rednecks. I know these people, enough of them well enough anyway. I know what conservative means, I know what grades they got in school. I also know how prejudiced they are, hateful of things far away they don't know squat about and intolerant of things that don't conform to their narrow customs. Then along comes a blowhard egomaniac wearing an orange cake face and a combover weave, and they go all gaga. Did they start watching the hypnotist channel or what? I don't get it. Why is the "Christian values party" turning into the Fourth Reich with an orange cake face?

Since the 70s (I was born 64 so that is my marker), we've been fed a fairly constant stream of the CEO Superman.

Combine that with the divisive and caustic rhetoric (not early 1800s rhetoric)

The network news using 'Pre-internet Clickbait' as they headline and push "Be afraid. Your uncle could be a serial killer, child molestor, the Lindberg Kidnapper, etc and if not your uncle, neighbor, whatever then it's the black guy, the Mexican, etc

Toss in that every complex problem in the world has simple solutions - tax cuts, send in the marines, it's the fault of liberals, it's because of the poor, abortion

The traditional majority is being squeezed and our country is imperiled; see white Christian

Throw in the slavish devotion to being famous and being seen makes you special

Stir in flat wages for 3 decades and you get Il Douche

He's not new, he's better at it then rMoney or McCain and he's not the only one out there that is good at it.

In times of crisis (real or perceived) a sizeable number of people turn to strong individuals who are not swayed and offer answers

17. Too many (not all) "old, white guys" feel like they are victims in a changing society/world.

While others have been victims for longer and more severely, it is a 'new' feeling for white guys in the US since they, unlike others who have been victims, once ran things and were more shielded from the effects of change or bad policies.

"Old white guys" can either accept change and adapt (the many who are liberal) or they can reject change, long to 'Make American White Again" and try to isolate the US from the rest of the world (conservative supporters of Trump and the tea party).

The GOP voters vote their fears and prejudices but not their pocketbooks.
