Death prayer for when it happens

Forgive and have mercy upon him. Excuse him and pardon him. Make honorable his reception. Protect him from the punishment of the grave. And the torment of fire.

Pardon him for what?

We should not be arguing at this time.

Ali is at peace with all. And he loves all prayers.

There are all sorts of good and bad prayers. If Ali appoved of bad prayers, I regretfully disagree. Personally, though, I don't think he did.

ETA. No, I do not love all people, in the sense of approving of their actions. Bad people, unfortunately, exist.

Then I took it as good thoughts expressed in the way of the poster. Sounded like ritual words to me, without looking it up. Maybe I'll go look it up now.

But, yeah, I sure see your point, and came thaaaat faaaar from responding the same way.

ETA that, for the record, it didn't sound necessarily Christian to me. But I sure don't think he requires forgiveness, etc.

We just assume he's guilty of some trespasses against a made-up boogeyman from a few thousand years ago. Why aren't we beyond this yet?

In Catholicism it's called Original Sin. They hang Adam and Eve's rebelling against God around your neck like a millstone. Until you have been baptized to wash Adam and Eve's sin away, you can't get into heaven. They are serious as a heart attack about this: they'll baptize babies the second they're born if they don't think the kid is going to make it. (Which is one of the reasons the Catholics don't do Protestant-style total-immersion baptism.)

Even if you don't agree with the contents, the form is worthy of respect.

Ali was a Muslim by choice. Please respect that choice.

and I will read it again from my heart in the way it was intended: respect for Muhammad Ali; peace to those who are saddened by his passing.

Your experience may differ. That's your choice. Don't force your choice on me, however.
