Forgive and have mercy upon him. Excuse him and pardon him. Make honorable his reception. Protect him from the punishment of the grave. And the torment of fire.

Pardon him for what?
Ali is at peace with all.

(76,637 posts)We should not be arguing at this time.
Ali is at peace with all. And he loves all prayers.

(6,592 posts)Sorry to disagree with The Greatest, but there it is. Hope he would forgive me.
H2O Man
(76,637 posts)that you and I do not have the same love for all prayers -- and people -- as Ali. Still, this is a time for people to think positive.

(6,592 posts)There are all sorts of good and bad prayers. If Ali appoved of bad prayers, I regretfully disagree. Personally, though, I don't think he did.
ETA. No, I do not love all people, in the sense of approving of their actions. Bad people, unfortunately, exist.

(76,637 posts)human beings are honoring Ali in their own way. The Champ is our focus now.

(6,592 posts)Hope he would agree. If not, I am at peace with my thoughts on the matter, but I think he would in fact agree.

(6,592 posts)Then I took it as good thoughts expressed in the way of the poster. Sounded like ritual words to me, without looking it up. Maybe I'll go look it up now.
But, yeah, I sure see your point, and came thaaaat faaaar from responding the same way.
ETA that, for the record, it didn't sound necessarily Christian to me. But I sure don't think he requires forgiveness, etc.

(52,126 posts)In Catholicism it's called Original Sin. They hang Adam and Eve's rebelling against God around your neck like a millstone. Until you have been baptized to wash Adam and Eve's sin away, you can't get into heaven. They are serious as a heart attack about this: they'll baptize babies the second they're born if they don't think the kid is going to make it. (Which is one of the reasons the Catholics don't do Protestant-style total-immersion baptism.)

Ali was a Muslim by choice. Please respect that choice.

(18,431 posts)and I will read it again from my heart in the way it was intended: respect for Muhammad Ali; peace to those who are saddened by his passing.
Your experience may differ. That's your choice. Don't force your choice on me, however.
