The whole "housekeeper is has held him hostage in his own home for three years" story lines didn't change public perception.

I used to listen to the Howard Stern interviews with Simmons, many years ago.

Granted...they may have been completely staged and 100% Simmons "shtick"...but they often went from eccentric and goofy to genuinely disturbing.

Hope he gets whatever help he needs.

that he was behaving in a calm, dignified manner - which would be bizarre for him.

I wish him well too. I like him and always have.

True fact. In my weight loss past I did a couple of infomercials with Richard, as well as several cruises. This was nearly twenty years ago. We spent quite a bit of time together. He's a sweet, funny, gentle soul who almost never drops the persona. But he's had a difficult few years because of a knee injury and, in my opinion, the natural problems with age. I last talked to him about four years ago when my novel came out. He's got a whole lot of people who either ridicule him or idolize him, but I just was impressed with his dedication to his cause. I hope he's fine and really wish him well.

Btw he was also absolutely in control of all that "bizarre" behavior and enjoyed hell out of it. Good guy.

I was never sure if he was in control of it but I always thought it was part of his routine.

I hope he's OK.

And I'm not just talking a few extra pounds. I'm talking about people who weigh 600+, who are so overweight that they are bedridden, have severe health problems, and their lives are threatened.

Richard Simmons would go and visit these people, encourage them to get healthier, and cheer them up with kind words.

Seeing that Richard is in a dark place right now makes me sad. I hope he gets better.

Seems that he was just dehydrated, according to him, which could make a person behave a little strangely. He claims that he's fine now.

Tom Estey, Simmons’ publicist of 27 years confirmed to ET on Sunday that the 67-year-old fitness guru had returned home after being hospitalized on Friday, adding that Simmons is “fine.”

Simmons also gave a statement to ET, saying, "Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love and concern after hearing I was in the hospital. I was dehydrated and needed some fluids and now I am feeling great! Summer is here - drink plenty of liquids. Big hugs and kisses for caring."
