What will Donald's excuse be?

I'm convinced that Trump will get out of the race before November. He doesn't want to be president, he never did. And he doesn't care one bit about the GOP, which he has spent the last year completely laying waste to and destroying, hopefully for decades to come. I think he'll get out of the race soon, probably using Melania as an excuse.

coming in. I figured he'd get out if it started costing him real money, and that may not happen.

The intense criticism might make it a whole lot less fun if he couldn't maintain his self image in the face of it, though,... I read that he can and does get really angry, and it's not a performance.

I also suspect he'd much, much rather hire on to host another TV show than be president. But concern for Melania seems too small an excuse. It needs to be yuuge and flattering to him, in his mind anyway, and I'm thinking should make a good delivery vessel for that insulting meanness he loads so many of his messages with. Maybe just insist the media have destroyed the nation beyond repair? With Paul Ryan's help?

I think that money will play a part in this, he would like to make a profit, and will at least require to get his campaign loans back.

Someone will have "stabbed him in the back".

It's always that way with these types.

A conspiracy of "them" who control the media, etc..

I agree that he doesn't want to do the job. However, I do think he wants the title and the attention it confers the same way Romney did, as a bauble to be added to the others in his collection.

The election is going to be closer than you think. The media will make sure of it.

I don't think he wanted to be President either, but now that the nomination is his, the repub party is going to make sure it rallies around him.

There will be plenty of mud to sling at Hillary, and Donald is going to relish every second of it.

i agree with you, he doesn't want to be president, doesn't care about the GOP.
i go you one further -- he knows full well that he's not qualified for the job, would be a disaster of a president, and will do as much as he can, consciously or not, to make himself unappealing to reasonable voters.

but here's the rub. there are people who have a lot invested in the long-term survival of the GOP. very powerful people. extremely rich people. people with connections to people who kill other people for money. and they need a candidate to head up the ticket.

remember that meeting DJT had with the "party elders" a while back? yeah, seems like a long time ago, but i think it was in late April or early May or some such. at that meeting, i think some very credible people gave DJT some very solid reasons why he shouldn't quit the race before the election, even if he's set on losing every state. they need their primary-winning presidential candidate to retain credibility as a political institution. if he quits halfway, they lose their long term investments, and they're not going to let that happen easily.

my guess is, at that meeting, DJT got the modern equivalent of the horse head in the bed (dunno, maybe it's still a horse head) and has some idea of the kind of misfortune that will befall himself and his family if he bows out early. sort of the political campaign equivalent of "you broke it, you clean it up, or else"

so i really think he's going to stick with it, no matter how repulsive he becomes.

just imho, of course.
