Senate Republicans finally admit defeat, give up on defunding Obamacare

?1462893039

No one tell failed presidential candidate and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (who's back to being a senator again), but his favorite hobbyhorse has died in the Senate.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans controlling the Senate are abandoning an effort to use their power over the federal purse strings to block implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
The more pragmatic approach with a huge $164 billion spending measure reflects a hope by top Republicans like Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to remove veto bait from must-pass spending bills in hopes of advancing them more easily.

Of course, just because leadership has finally cried uncle and admitted defeat on this one doesn't mean Cruz or some of his more "Freedom-y" Republican colleagues will agree. They could still cause plenty of mischief on the floor over this, and likely will. Cruz's national ambitions haven't died along with his humiliating defeat by Donald Trump—nor has his relentless zeal for taking away people's health insurance.

I don't trust them further than I can throw them.

However, the expression on Cruz's face is priceless!

Thanks. Stellar!

Don't you wanna hold 50 or 60 more repeal Obamacare votes, you know, for old time's sake?

We make fun of McConnel but he will put up an epic fight for his job and he has a lot more friends than Cruz

That will be the Alamo for Teabagger lumpen prols and their fundy pals in the Republican party

The existance of the GOP as a serious party in national politics rests on which one wins

We owe it to the few liberal Democrats in Congress to get as many other (D)s as we can up to Washington D.C. -- and also in all your local statehouses, while you're at it. If we can tip the scales and get Dem majorities, that puts liberals back into Committee Chair positions. Think Warren, Franken, and yes, Sanders, and others. But to do that, we need as many warm-bodied Dems elected as we can get -- even if they're not the most liberal, or even if they're DINOs (if that's your only option) -- because the control of Congress comes from getting the numbers and gaining the majorities!! So do your favorite liberal Senators and Representatives a favor, and vote for every down-ticket Dem on your ballot THIS November, AND in November 2018, AND every two years thereafter!! They'll thank you for it, and so will your fellow Americans.

Go Blue, Go Vote, Go Dems.

As soon as the voting is over they will start this up again.

They know if they stop now then no one will remember all their shit come November.
