One of the smartest, most respected, and all around great guys in politics today. After watching his anti-Trump speech and reading his open letter to a rape victim, I almost fear we don't deserve him. We would all live in a better world if just a few more people in government were like Joe Biden. Here's to you sir

Enjoy! (Or maybe not...)

(1,248 posts)That was one of the most moving speeches against Trump...ever. Every person in the country should watch that.

(3,072 posts)You know when he is serious about something, we need to pay attention. That is what I saw from that speech today

(3,072 posts)Poor Joe. Such a tough life. Sounds like he is an absolutely amazing father and amazing person all around.

(3,072 posts)He was once smug and full of his terrible ideas. He seems like he doesn't know if he should eat or go to bed any more. The guy is still a whimpering mess after nearly 4 years. I would never, in a million years, want to run into biden in a dark alley.

(22,840 posts)And I recall Ryan continually gulping water while Joe remained cool, calm, and collected-- plus he looked very amused at much of what Ryan said).
No, I sure wouldn't want to go up against Mr. Biden!!
I shall miss him, too
First Speaker
(4,858 posts)...friend of mine worked in his office for a spell. She loved him, thought the world of him--but every once in awhile, Mr Hyde Biden would come out, and everyone in the office would hide behind the desks...

(3,072 posts)He said he used to walk through bad neighborhoods at night, as a senator, hoping someone would attack him so he could fight them because he was so angry after losing his family members. I sure that is still somewhat in him to this day.

(3,072 posts)Stupid 22nd amendment. They would run again and I bet it would be Nixon vs McGovern numbers. They are definitely ready for one more go around and Trump would be a drooling mess by July.

(20,544 posts)I really do not think most citizens appreciate the fact that this president has not bellowed his way into another major war. He sought peace in the world and did not think it was no consequence to send men and women into war.

(22,840 posts)But I think, for the president, he'll miss the office but find plenty of fulfillment in the years following his presidency. He can write his own ticket! I just hope he doesn't drop out of public life completely!

(108,925 posts)three other women who were waiting outside the room, prepared to tell their own stories confirming Anita's allegations.
And when he was questioning her, he often sounded like a Thomas defense lawyer.
Just think about it -- a whole panel of white male Senators, taking turns sharply questioning one black woman. It was a disgraceful scene that many women have not forgotten.

But that hasn't erased the memories of how Biden presided over those hearings as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, blamed for doing little to stop the attacks on Hill and opting not to call three other witnesses who would have echoed Hill's charges of sexual harassment. Biden almost apologetically gave Thomas the benefit of the doubt, critics say, and that stance helped put Thomas on the Supreme Court.

Biden did a disservice to me, a disservice more importantly, to the public, Hill said in an interview last spring with The Huffington Post. Calling the other witnesses could have helped the public to understand sexual harassment. He failed to do that.

Charles Ogletree, the Harvard Law School professor who represented Hill (and once had President Barack Obama as a student), said he's still mad about how Biden handled himself back then.
I was shocked and dismayed that Joe Biden was asking questions that didn't seem appropriate and was not in her corner as a Democrat, Ogletree said. The point is that he's supposed to be neutral, but his questions to Anita Hill were as piercing as anyone's.

Will be so sorry to see Joe leave public office.
Perhaps incoming Pres. Clinton can find an appropriate spot for him - Ambassador to the UN? or Ambassador to the Vatican?- though I believe Joe doesn't want to go too far from his family.

(62,442 posts)The Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act (BAPCPA) was passed in April, 2005 by the U.S. Senate in a 74-25 vote, including the yea vote of Joe Biden, and was quickly signed by President Bush.
(Hillary Clinton skipped the vote. She did vote yea on the unsuccessful 2001 bill, although she later claimed to regret the vote, and explained that she had traded her support in order to make sure that alimony and child support payments werent compromised by the new law. More on that later.)
In light of what occurred in its wake, this law is easily one of the most disgraceful aspects of the Bush and Biden legacies. The harm it did to middle-class Americans, especially during the crushing events of the recession four years later, is immeasurable. The bill made it nearly impossible for average families to file Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection, also known as clean slate bankruptcies intended to discharge nearly all debts, a matter of a few years before theyd need it the most. The bill instituted an all new means test to determine whether debtors with insurmountable financial hardships earned enough income to pay back all or part of their unsecured debts, specifically credit debt. If they earned too much, a clean slate bankruptcy became impossible, and theyd be forced to file Chapter 13, which would force debtors to pay back their debt over a five-year timeline, thus legalizing neo-indentured-servitude to creditors.
