(11,076 posts)With Donald as a candidate she would not have had to debate and those pesky rallies would be unnecessary. What will come if her if she has to campaign against someone less vaudevillian?

(21,987 posts)For over 30 years, the GOP has thrown mud composed of lies, innuendos and unproven allegations at Hillary Clinton and none of it has stuck. The best example of her intelligence, strength and knowledge was exhibited in her marathon testimony before Congressman Gowdy's Benghazi committee. She was masterful and serious and demonstrated how small and foolish the Republicans are.
From everything I've read so far, it will be highly unlikely that the GOP will replace Donald Trump as their nominee. Regardless, she'll do fine.

Who are they running against?
Even if they lose, the 1% will win.

(1,957 posts)As I keep saying and you keep missing:
The GOP wants to run against Hillary. She has negatives off the chart and if she will guarantee a large segment of the electorate will stay home.
That is true no matter who the GOP nominee is.
That means that the down ticket races will most definitely be affected. When turnout is low, who wins?
The GOP controls a very large part of the country, in the state and local. They like it that way.
They also control the legislative branch at the federal level and if Hillary is on the ticket it's unlikely they will lose that. What makes you think that even if she's elected she'll be able to implement anything?
Try looking outside your bubble.

(17,064 posts)...since Trump may be replaced at the convention. He was the GOP candidate she had the best chance of beating. Now the GOP will select a candidate who'll run much stronger against her.

(17,064 posts)...and deals being made. No way to predict. Money has to go on an establishment candidate like Bush, Romney, or Kasich...but there could be a compromise that gives it to an upstart or dark horse.
Keep in mind, GOP hopes are to hang on to House and Senate, so they don't want a down-ticket bloodbath. They'll sacrifice the presidential race in order to hold on to Congress, build the Brand, and try again in 4 years.

(6,280 posts)... Any republican you want. Let me ask. Do you really believe that the die hard trump fans will go with someone else after rejecting umpteen other candidates to elect him as their nominee? They will do exactly as some of Bernie's supporters will do. Write in trumps name or vote third party. The far-right version of rejecting the establishment.
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)...less than a third. The 'no Trump' vote was split among 16 candidates, allowing Trump to win several winner-take-all states with only 25-30% of the vote. Plus he had a huge edge in media coverage, and name recognition. In a more 'normal' type of Primary campaign, Trump comes in third place out of three.

(24,689 posts)I listen to RW radio during my long commute in the AM and PM.. and its sounds like they are going to try to change the rules at the convention to stop Trump from getting the vote on the first ballot which would then open it up to other candidates.
They know there will probably be a riot and who knows what Trump will do but I think they are willing to take that risk to get rid of him.
Cleveland is going to be interesting.

(10,857 posts)Overheard last night:
First fat white guy: "What do you think, does Trump have a chance?"
Second fat white guy: "He just can't keep his mouth shut, that guy. I wish he would."
That's the typical Republican response, I think: everything Trump has said and done is forgivable. They just wish he wouldn't say what all Republicans think. Shameful.
I would add that the two men were in a booth behind me with two women whose silence on the matter was athunderous.

(10,857 posts)If George Bush hadn't foreshortened the lives of millions of white Americans by impoverishing them, stealing their homes, and making them opium addicts, Trump might have a chance.
But the sheep were skinned, not fleeced.
I don't think any Republican could have won this election. Presidential selection in 2000 led directly to natural selection by 2016.

(3,072 posts)It works for about 2 hours before he starts screaming/spitting about Mexicans again. And have you seen those moments where trump is "on message"? He sounds like a dull robot version of Ted Cruz who can barely read. He is either going to go with poorly programmed RoboTrump or he will fly off the rails again on some wild, racist rant imminently. There is no charming, down to earth, well spoken, knowledgeable trump. All of the coaching, scripts, and sedatives in the world won't transform him into that.

(1,443 posts)I knew it would happen sooner or later, although I figured it wouldn't happen until the convention.
Giving him a text to read, oddly enough, makes him sound even dumber than usual. He's a very poor reader. Remember Drumpf Steaks? "When it comes to steaks, I've just raised the stakes!" Lousy line reading and he shouts everything in a sing-song manner. There's a story about his gig hosting SNL. He had the line, "Let's go. Turkey legs?" (meaning "Do you want to go get some turkey legs?" Drumpf read it as "Let's go, turkey legs!"

There are not enough fat white guys to elect a president. There were in 80 and even 90.
Hell, Mittens could not do it and he got some Hispanic votes.
