Speaking of glass ceilings.
The night before Hillary Clinton shattered the big one becoming the first woman with enough delegates to lead a major party's presidential ticket Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump claimed to have busted through barriers for women in construction.

"No. 1, I have great respect for women," Trump told Bill O'Reilly Monday on Fox News. "I was the one that really broke the glass ceiling on behalf of women, more than anybody, in the construction industry."

ok, not to toot my own horn here, but one of the greatest things i accomplished in my life is that i was one of the founding mothers of chicago women in trades, an organization that exists still today.
as the article says, that glass ceiling is really a concrete floor, and despite the hammering, it has yielded very little in these last 35 years.

Sounds like your Founding Mothers organization has done great things for women. Congratulations on great work:

(70,067 posts)i had the honor of being the first employee of the org.
i handled a job listing phone message system, which was a big thing back them.
i also stole printing services w the help of my (now ex) husb, who worked at the data center at loyola. (pretty sure the statute of limitations has run out on that one.)
i kinda lost contact after i settled into being a mom, but was sought out to attend the 25th anniversary funder. i had a hard time picking my jaw up off the floor.
the room was full of movers and shakers. i felt like i had bumped into the kid i kicked out of the house and found out they had grown up to be a millionaire.
great group. anyone who is interested in getting into the skilled trades should check them out, even if you arent in chi. they are very well connected across the country.

(4,033 posts)here in Pittsburgh it was Nate Smith who moved to have women and African-Americans in the Trade Unions. I met him several times & I often referred young people to his "Operation Dig" program.

cant believe how little progress has actually been made in 35 years. sigh.
it was a nationwide movement.
it was very hard in my day for african americans to get into the skilled trades also. union meetings got pretty ugly sometimes.
