(48,955 posts)it was put in comparison with other public words - from those professing fundamentalist (in their own traditions) beliefs that promote violence against the LBGQT community. A veritable echo chamber validating the unstable person acting upon those words.

(85,971 posts)...the words of the republican nominee for president are extremely important. These statements and ignorant and bigoted responses from elected officials, political figures, and other prominent individuals should be aggressively countered.
ANY suggestion that this wasn't a direct attack on the LGBT community shouldn't be taken seriously. This was a U.S. born citizen committing these acts, almost exclusively against members of the gay community, no matter what trumped-up cause he used to justify it.
Those are facts which transcend all of the attempts to deflect this to something happening overseas.

(85,971 posts)...what I'd say, from what we know, despite the reports and statements which emphasize whatever connection to ISIS that might exist, this is a truly American-bred and an American-influenced act of terror.
All of the elements of violence (against ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, etc.) and hate that made up this horrific act are being promoted right now, as we read this, by conservatives at the highest levels of office and influence.

This OP presents Mateen's father as a valid and reasonable person. If words like that were spoken against any other minority group, DU would instantly banish those who promoted the speakers. Who touted such speakers. But even with the recent events, LGBT are not accorded the same respect others are given.
