Yet another mass murder. This time targeting the LGBTQ community.
On the right:
We have everyone from heads of state government to various Christian groups calling it's good and justice for "sins" against their God.
We have the teapublican candidate for POTUS tRump, saying this:

On the left:
We have Democrats, specifically a leading spokesman for the presumptive Democratic nominee for POTUS, calling for the surveillance and limiting of gun ownership of "Islamic element" whatever that means:
http://www.masslive.com/politics/index.ssf/2016/06/former_massachusetts_rep_barne.html
The government's surveillance history is spotty at best. Why just "the Islamic element"? What about the "Christian element"? The "Jewish element"?
This fear-mongering and scapegoating on both sides is becoming disgusting and not what we, as Democrats, should be condoning or encouraging as acceptable behavior in a modern society.
Surveillance Of Muslims does nothing to end gun violence and regulate the out of control gun culture in America and how we stop another attack like this from happening again. Nothing.
This is nothing more than childish, simple-minded finger-pointing.
This type of thinking will fix nothing.

(24,875 posts)It sucks but this country has gone to the dogs. I like real dogs just not the dogs that have taken over most of the states and nationally.
But one should always hope.

(14,449 posts)We may give up some weapons but bombs will be replaced like Boston. I don't see s good ending for us on the terrorism front.

(21,998 posts)Dogs are wonderful, amazing creatures that have a fantastic symbiotic relationship with humans dating back to pre-History. If something has "gone to the dogs," it should mean a good thing.
Let's say "gone to the cockroaches" instead!
Or your headline is even more accurate: "Down the shitter."

(10,164 posts)I expect it in my lifetime (I'm 40). Not into individual states in most cases (maybe California...), but into regional polities, a la the former Soviet Union. And I'm okay with that...

(8,684 posts)I could see CA, OR, HI and WA all becoming a single region. Unfortunately, for the rest of the country, that would be a significant portion of the original country's GDP and produce.
Southern and many teapublican-led states, the true 'taker' states, would not be able to survive without being carried by the other states in the republic.
I don't think it is possible or practical but it's fun as an intellectual exercise as what that would look like.
