The Tarrant County Democratic Party has been making progress in this area of GOTV. It isn't an easy task. But we have precinct chair training among other efforts to increase democratic turnout.

It is really sad though, and a lot more work needs to be done.

I was the election judge for our runoff primary. I was in charge of 17 precincts, 3060 ballots and only 10 people came out to do their civic duty and vote. Two of the votes were my hubby and mine. So, only eight people bothered to get out and vote.

They still think its con country and its not ... most of the folk here are racial minorities or from the coastal states and can't stand the conservatives here but the conservatives are starting to moderate to keep there seats.

The mayor of McKinney came out quick against the one stupid cop cause they know the PoC there vote in big numbers and he wanted to keep his seat

the state and national races. It's also kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy. If there's little reason to try to win House races - and, really, the way the state has been hacked up makes a huge percentage of them safe - then it's hard to convince people to GOTV for the other races.

Not that we shouldn't try, of course.

But, as the old joke goes, all politics is local. Has to start there.

I believe TX could have been prevented from going red 20 years ago. I severely blame the state party.

Don't expect much effort in TX. The effort will go into swing states and reliably blue states. (Can't blame them. It's just smart politics). It's also why TX is seated in the parking lot at the convention.

There's still a pretty solid GOP base entrenched in the suburbs and rural areas here. They vote for pretty much anything followed by an R, and there aren't a lot of signs that even Trump will dissuade enough of them to swing the state.

Not that we won't try, of course.

I just don't think the numbers are there yet for 2016, but it's trending. It would be nice to make some inroads in 2018 and 2020 to try to reverse some of the ridiculous gerrymandering we have.

In this last Texas GOP primary, statewide, Ted Cruz got 43.76% of the vote. Trump got 26.75%.

Then there is Texas' 13th district. The most republican district in the United States, the majority of the population residing in Potter and Randall counties.

In Potter county, Ted Cruz got 47.59% of the vote. Trump got 24.33%.

In Randall county, Ted Cruz got 51.21% of the vote. Trump got 21.92%.

I'm just sayin'

This is just another example of the free market in play (wink). Donald Trump's expressions about every minority I could list has caused corporations and other groups to shun any direct associations with him. This Texas example is the latest.

A couple of weeks ago, it was announced that an important and prestigious golf tournament would be leaving the Trump-owned Doral course in Miami after more than 50 years because no corporate sponsors could be found for the event. No one wanted to be associated with Mr. Trump because of his toxicity. The kicker is delicious: the event will be played in Mexico where it will be sponsored by a Mexican bank.

http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2016/06/14/two-north-texas-cities-reject-trump-campaign-rallies/

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – CBS11 News has learned two cities in North Texas, Grand Prairie and Irving, have rejected playing host to Donald Trump’s campaign rallies in the days leading up to the presumptive Republican nominee’s visit to the Dallas area Thursday.

Aside from a rally, the Trump campaign has scheduled a fundraiser.

“It’s very unusual that the Republican candidate for president in this deep red state would be having trouble finding a venue for his rallies,” said SMU Political science professor Cal Jillson.

The Trump campaign requested to hold the rally Thursday evening at the Verizon Theater in Grand Prairie; the same location Democrat Bernie Sanders attracted 7,000 supporters in February.

But Grand Prairie police, who declined an on-camera interview, said the city rejected the Trump campaign’s request because of traffic and parking concerns.

The city of Irving rejected the Trump campaign’s request to hold the rally at its convention center. It released the following statement:

“In consultation with the Irving Police Department, the city of Irving decided it was not given sufficient time – given a 48 hour notice – to gather the resources necessary to ensure the safety and security of those attending such a large-scale, high-profile event.”

Protesters promise to give Trump 'hot Texas welcome' Thursday at Gilley's

After being turned down by venues in Irving, Grand Prairie and Dallas, the campaign managed to secure space at Gilley's, a 92,000-square-foot entertainment facility across from Dallas police headquarters on South Lamar Street. Tickets are now available online.

Organizers say they could have as many as 10,000 to give Trump a "hot" Texas welcome at the 7 p.m. event. Dallas police, who went through riot training Wednesday, stand ready if things get out of hand.

Trump's rallies are often a spectacle, inside and out, with the bombastic New York businessman thrilling supporters with promises to build a wall along the southern border and wipe out the Islamic State.

In other cities, protests have gotten out of hand.

"We will be giving Donald Trump a warm, hot Texas welcome," said Dallas lawyer Domingo Garcia, an activist who has helped organize the protest. "We are expecting to send a message to Donald Trump that his campaign of hatred, bigotry and division is not welcome in the United States or North Texas."
