Don’t Let Donald Trump Get Away With This Sick Lie About The Orlando Shooting

The gunman lived in the U.S. his whole life. This is not about refugees.

As part of that mission, Trump is working to portray gunman Omar Mateen as an immigrant, a refugee and a foreign menace. Mateen never would have been in the U.S., Trump argues, if we had listened to him and enacted a ban on all Muslims entering the country.

In a national security address on Monday, Trump even said, seemingly in error, that the shooter was born “in Afghan,” a statement that makes such little sense that it wasn’t technically a lie. But his intention is clear.

30+ years ago, the State Dept allowed a Taliban sympathizer to immigrate to the US.

As a feminist, I object. I think that was a poor decision, one that created a risky situation for American women and all Americans living in a free society.

As a feminist in 2016, I would hope there are no Taliban sympathizers being allowed to immigrate here today.

since they were fighting against the Soviet Union.

The Pulse massacre can be seen as blow-back from the CIA support for the mujahideen (later the Taliban) fundamentalist Muslims in their fight against the USSR in the late 70s-early 80s.

attitude of ignoring the rights of women and treating them as possessions is sadly not limited to Taliban sympathizers. I would suspect that many of those views are equally popular among many of the middle eastern refugees who are being relocated here, with essentially no vetting involved. On the other hand, we have all too many domestically grown knuckle draggers who share similar attitudes towards women, as well.

Yes, we have problems here we have yet to solve. That's no excuse for admitting more.

just noting that such repugnant views are not limited either to just those who support the Taliban or to those outside of this country.

After 15 Saudi nationals were involved in the September 11 attacks, the United States naturally invaded . . . Iraq. Some bloodthirsty jerk born in Queens mows down dozens of people in a nightclub, Trump wants to bomb . . . somewhere in the Middle East.

Republican logic: The stuff nightmares are made of.
