California woman vandalized national parks

California woman sentenced for vandalizing national parks

A woman was sentenced this week after pleading guilty to vandalizing several national parks, where she defaced rock formations with her ‘art’ and signature tagline “creepytings.”
Casey Nocket, 23, was ordered to serve two years’ probation and 200 hours of community service after pleading guilty to seven misdemeanor charges, according to the National Park Service.

She was banned from entering any national park while serving her sentence and will be required to pay restitution, which will be determined at a hearing at a later date.

Nocket spent 26 days in 2014 traveling to seven locations in California, Oregon, Utah and Colorado, where she used acrylic paints and markers to draw or paint designs that she later posted online to her Instagram and Tumblr accounts.

Acting U.S. Atty. Philip Talbert said Nocket’s “art” reflected a “lack of respect for the law and our shared national treasures.”

The areas that were vandalized include Yosemite, Death Valley, Rocky Mountain, Canyonlands, Zion and Crater Lake national parks and the Colorado National Monument.

can be fully restored; but that she is held responsible for every penny.

It's almost a bad pun in this case, but you know the expression, "can't get blood from a stone"? I'm hoping that she had the kernel of good sense to use material that is not difficult to remove. Because she doesn't sound like she can afford expensive restoration.

She should get some real jail time. Her getting such a light sentence has encouraged the shit that has been happening this year including the shitstains who walked through Grand Prismatic this spring and the surfers on the Bonneville Flats, rappelling at Arches NP etc..

Fuckwads with no respect should be removed from having any personal freedom until they learn to respect that which others, like myself, toil to keep wild and untrammeled for future generations. These assholes are so self-centered and selfish that they can't think beyond their own instant gratification and hope of their 15 minutes of fame.

Here is one of this works--

Running Fence[edit]

In 1973, after 17 stateless years, Christo became a United States citizen. In 1972, Christo and Jeanne-Claude began preparations for Running Fence: a fabric fence, supported by steel posts and steel cables, running through the landscape and leading into the sea. The fence was to be 5.5 meters high and 40 kilometers long and constructed in Sonoma and Marin Counties, California. For the project, 59 families of ranchers needed to be convinced and the permission of the authorities had to be obtained, so Christo and Jeanne-Claude hired nine lawyers. At the end of 1973, Christo and Jeanne-Claude marked the path of the fence with wooden stakes. On 29 April 1976, the work finally began after a long struggle against bureaucracy. Approximately 200,000 m2 of nylon fabric, 2050 steel posts and 145 km of steel cable were needed. On 10 September 1976 the work was completed. However, Christo and Jeanne-Claude had to pay a $60,000 fine, because they lacked permission for the coastal region.[citation needed]

We should not be letting people like this woman come here and ruin our national treasures. This is all Obama's fault.

Homegirl might just be an entitled clueless idiot who didn't know it was wrong. I suppose its good that she has to pay restitution and is on probation. But the main reason she didn't get roughed up by the cops like the more urban graffiti artists is probably due to how she looks.

It's hard to understand the idiotic mindset behind this -- narcissism combined with cluelessness, I guess. How can someone experience such gorgeous natural places with so little comprehension?

The massive ego of this, to think that
a. she could somehow improve the beauty of the area she trashed
b. other people had any desire to see her "art"
c. she had any right to go into a place that belongs to all of us and paint her crap

I'm glad she's being force to pay for the cleanup, and really glad that it's going fairly well.
