New York Times editor Andrew Rosenthal denounced Donald Trumps proposed policies Wednesday, arguing in an op-ed that Trumps rhetoric and positions towards Mexicans and Muslims could precipitate a genocide.
Trump never bothers to talk about what he would do about the millions of Muslims already living in the United States. Would he round them up and deport them, as he is proposing to do with the millions of undocumented immigrants living in the country? he aksed.
Lets be absolutely clear. This is not just about bigotry, argued Rosenthal. The mass arrest and forced movement of large populations has been an instrument of genocide throughout history.
That is how the Turks committed genocide against Armenians in the early 20th century, how the United States government decimated some Native American tribes and how Stalin killed millions of his own citizens, he noted.

(78,249 posts)My Armenian FB friend informs me that some Armenian-Americans are leaning toward the short-fingered vulgarian because they've somehow gotten the idea that he's going to recognize it (the Turks have kept most of the world from doing so, which is why it was a very big deal when Germany did so recently).
Here I am in California, where ballots are provided in Armenian in some counties, and my only Armenian FB friend is outside Richmond, VA. Go figure.
