Violent Extremism

Most violent extremists (religious, political) tend to have one key thing in common:

They're men.

Since both political and religious laws throughout time have tended to favor men as the more privileged and favored gender in societies, maybe men tend to favor a more literal interpretation of laws (secular or religious) than women?

Rather than criticize specific religions, I tend to focus on the cultures, because the culture seems to be what indicates whether or not religion is followed with a fundamental, moderate or progressive lens.

We damn sure are in dire need of cultural transformation toward a more caring, just way of being and doing that works for everyone.

Thoughts?

I don't think men are more inclined towards fundamentalism. Act_of_Reparation Jun 2016 #2

interpretation of laws, but I think it may have more to do with testosterone.

Most religions are patriarchal, so in any given fundamentalist society it is likely that men will be the most visible and politically vocal. That doesn't mean the women are any less fervent in their beliefs.
