Do you believe that "We, the People", are the "government"?

If not, why would anyone surrender their guns to a "government" that does not represent "we, the people"? How much should we trust the "government"? A big part of our government, an entire political Party, refuses to do anything to protect or represent the interests of we, the people, it seems to me?
