I suspect the Johnson/Weld Libertarian Party ticket will have quite the impact

My guess is that it's impact will mostly be its draw from republican voters, but who knows? What we do know is that both Clinton and especially Trump have high unfavorable.

Active and registered in all 50 states, they only polled 1% in 2012, and are polling over 12% right now.

If things keep up, the Republican-Democrat duopoly is going to be broken here in a few more election cycles...

It's a safe place to lodge a protest vote. But in the general election they'll be lucky to get even a fifth of that.

However with that said, if they can poll 15% then the major parties might let Johnson onto the debate stage.

Being on the debate stage will attract the fence sitters for sure, and give the republicans a path away from Trump

I agree, it's an out for republicans, though it could also well receive a lot of independent votes.

but I suspect that if Trump continues to implode & the GOP does not replace him, the Libertarians will be the Ross Perot of 2016.
