Is DU limited to folks who have been here for some secret amount of time, or who have a certain number of posts? Are we limiting the Democratic Party to voters over a certain age? I'm pretty sure that people continue to join the party, and that we are a pretty welcoming lot.

And also, I can't help it if people read into my message some pro-gun (ugh!) message. I tend to think it tells me a LOT about people in how they interpret what others say. You see a pro-gun message, huh? . . .

most likely a black powder weapon. One and done, no mass murders. If the Orlando shooter had one of those there would have been one person shot.

actually had high cap mags and assault weapons?

Pretty sure they both got arrested and are in jail now; now facing numerous charges for doing, go figure, illegal things.
Likely those illegal items will be forfeit too.

Interesting how that works.

Handguns firing cartridge ammunition are banned, except weapons of "historical interest"; semi-automatic rifles are banned, except in .22LR calibre; semi-automatic shotguns are banned. Private individuals can own: single-shot, bolt-action, and lever-action rifles chambered for centrefire ammunition, single- or double-barrelled shotguns, and "shot pistols" (20 gauge or .410) for pest control. A firearms certificate is required for each weapon; to obtain a firearms certificate one must show good reason for having a gun (self-defence is not a reason), which includes: membership in a gun club for target shooting, hunting, game shooting, control of pests and vermin on farms. One must have separate locked storage for firearms and ammunition that conforms to a specific standard.

Some have described the gun as old - WW1 or 2. If they're right, it could have been sitting hidden away for years (after my grandparents died, we discovered an old revolver in my grandfather's desk, probably from World War 1, and not fired for 70 years or more).

And "weapons of historical interest" which may include things chambered for cartridges like .455 Webley and .476 Eley (WWI-era Webley revolvers, etc).

And an eyewitness described the gun as "looking homemade" so perhaps he built it out of available parts, like a zip gun.

If it was the US it would have been an AR15 and there'd be 20 bodies.

But ammosexual logic is a wonderful thing

How about we compare total gun deaths adjusted for population between the US and Uk. It isn't even close. Gun restrictions work to reduce carnage. That is provably true. And you know it. Your big gotcha doesn't hold up to logical analysis. We had political assassinations in the US before ordinary citizens could by military style weapons. But we didn't have monthly mass shootings.

"Oh your solution doesn't produce perfection therefore it's bogus" is disingenuous and illogical.

Never underestimate the human propensity for violence. It is our sad biological inheritance. Most to nearly all people despise violence, but those prone to it will hurt others.

It is up to the rest of us to do all we can to prevent such.
