This was told to me this morning.
It was so Michelle would have a better view or something during their vacation.
Yeah, I know.
I said "I find that very hard to believe."
He said "This isn't hearsay. We were there."
She said "Yes, we saw it."
Of course I didn't believe it, but I searched "Obama has palms removed at Waikiki".
Nada.
Has anyone seen this urban legend or whatever making the rounds?

(31,382 posts)The Obamas stay in Kailua, which is no where near Waikiki.
But, some people will believe anything they hear if they want to believe it.
Here's where they've stayed in Kailua

(1,232 posts)Miles of brown trunk with a plop of green on top. If they were obstructing my view of an otherwise amazing vista, I'd cut them down too. It's not like they're endangered.
I especially hate the super super tall ones in LA. 60 feet of brown nothing, and a bunch of fronds waaaaaaay up at the top, waiting to fall on your head or your car in a high wind.
I like shade trees, trees with flowers, leaves that change colors, mossy trunks, symmetry, bird and squirrel nests, fruit and nut trees....
I know there are many species of palms, and yes, some are very special and yada yada yada... this ain't it. They're good for making palapas, and watching the workers weave them into cool things is pretty amazing too.

(90,641 posts)...separated from Waikiki by an impressive mountain range. Waikiki is wrecked, it's all high rises and elbow to elbow tourists, as of my high school reunion last October.
Kailua is still a nice little town, as evidenced by the events the reunion committee put together for us old Kailua High School grads. The beach is absolutely beautiful and pristine. Shhhh. Don't tell the tourists.
I've seen photos of the compound the Obamas and their friends rent for their group vacations -- privacy is a necessity for a presidential family, as you might expect. The Secret Service has a few things to say about that. At least this POTUS didn't buy a fake ranch in Texas for "cutting brush", or one high above Santa Barbara that can only be reached by helicopter.
Anyway, it looked like the "views" were mostly to the interior of the compound grounds, though there was easy access to Kailua Beach.
Michelle hasn't murdered any trees, palm or otherwise.

(37,457 posts)It's tourist central, mostly Chinese and Japanese at that time. Talk about a security nightmare for the Obama family. I'm guessing these people have never been to Waikiki.

So the OP is false.
The North Shore is where it is at anyway.
