Why not refuse to sell them?
One gun dealer refused to sell the Orlando terrorist ammunition and a vest.
Congress will get hung up on legislation. Why not a campaign to dealers and business people who have basic morality? Stop selling military assault style weapons, large magazines and large quantities of ammo. Just stop selling weapons of mass murder. It will never work with Walmart, but it might work with small businesses. Every little bit helps.

2. A campaign to get businesses to stop making profit...
Nice sentiment, but probably not going to work. Remember, not only is there profit involved, but also something like 100% of gun store owners believe in an individual right to have a semi-automatic weapon.

3. tough to do, even if 99% of the current gun shops stop selling them it creates a market
and new people who only care about making a buck will enter the market and satisfy the demand

5. Semi-automatic long guns are one of, if not the, most popular rifles for hunting and competition.
I've read elsewhere this is partly due to the "Streisand Effect" the phenomenon where by seeking to obscure a thing the thing gains in notoriety and popularity. What I read claims the original "Assault Weapons" Ban made people look twice at the rifles and once they began handling them the platform's popularity exploded amongst hunters and competitive shooters.

6. Good idea, but why stop there?
How about a campaign to get drug dealers to stop selling drugs? Drugs kill a lot of people.

10. Serious
Mark Barden on TV was asked, have you ever confronted a weapons dealer and ask why do you still sell the type of weapon used in mass killings? He said no.
I think it is-a legitimate question to ask. There is no legitimate use for these weapons . Just stop selling them voluntarily. |

12. Okay, well good luck with that.
It will likely be about as effective as asking a supermarket to stop selling meat.

only shows a lack of comprehension and knowledge of history.

11. According to the ATF 90% of guns recovered from crime scenes
are traced to 5% of gun dealers. However it is forbidden to report these gun dealers to gun distributors.

14. I know it is about money
There are moral gun owners who might support the store that says we don't sell that type of weapon anymore.

15. Change has to start somewhere
Asking questions like the one you've posed can get things moving. When the knee-jerk "money trumps peace" nonsense gets dragged out, it's good to have it exposed as nonsense. Then we can move on to the next phase, "Well, if we all agree that there are some things - like people's lives - more important than the profit to be made from selling an AR-15, then why don't we . . . ?"

16. Because this is America
And Money is our God.
Gun Dealers believe they are doing the Lord's Work. The jackhole dealer that purportedly reported Mateen to the FBI thinks he's a fucking hero/patriot/Nostradamus today. |
