If this week in politics wasn't astonishing enough, get a load of this: Politico asked a panel of Republican "experts," which I imagine convened in a crap-filled barn in Iowa while armed guards scanned the cornfields for people of color, who should Donald Trump pick as his running mate. The result was hilarious.

GOP members of The POLITICO Caucus a panel of activists, strategists and operatives in 10 key battleground states splintered this week when asked to suggest who Trump should select to share the ticket with him this fall.
Gaining the most support were former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (13 percent), Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (9 percent), Ohio Gov. John Kasich (8 percent), former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (8 percent), Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst (7 percent) and Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions (7 percent).

I find this fascinating. How is it that they fail to recall the last stupid narcissist/evil sociopath ticket, which resulted in the worst Presidency in modern history?
And seriously, how effed are the Republicans now? Some vanishingly small plurality of "experts" are looking to Newt friggin Gingrich, one of the most disgusting humans of our era, to be the moderating force of expertise that their nominee needs.
A pair of draft-dodging Cluster B scumbags teaming up for a hundred days before they devote the rest of their lives to plotting against each other. Brilliant!
