One reason gun legislation goes nowhere --

I hesitate to post this, but I'll let my feelings out and let MIRT decide if it is appropriate.

Just got done emailing my senators (Ernst & Grassley) and thinking what a futile effort it is to try to convey anything to them. My mind was wandering when it occurred to me that the wrong kind of people are being shot, not just in the noted mass shootings but also in the 100 or so that happen daily.

The victims are not the kind of people who are noted or rich or famous for the most part. When a famous person is shot there is a bit more of a to do for a few days, then it settles back into the normal poor and middle class getting shot.

Current victims such as the LGBT community or urban dwellers are even spoken of as deserving to die. Of course no one should, but those in the ruling elite act as if that is just part of the normal day in Outthere, USA.

But much like the Bernie Madoff scandal where Madoff became the only person to land in jail over the Republican Recession because he stole from the wealthy, if victims were suddenly more from the ranks of the rich and famous and especially the political donor class, one can surely bet that congress would be all over it.

Remember the study from a year or so ago that politicians could care less about what the 99.9% think? That holds for gun control also. So if the victims suddenly shifted into the political donor class - there would be a sudden change.

Obviously the reason I hesitated to post this is that it sounds like I may be calling for a violent revolution. Not at all - just recognizing the fact that the political class is owned by the wealthy.

One other observation that often seems true is that most folks don't care or do something about a problem until it directly affects them, such as the infrastructure in this country.

I have to agree ... and, no, I don't see this as a call for violent revolution. 1StrongBlackMan Jun 2016 #3

The rich and wealthy and "important" all have body guards so that is another problem. They think it's safe out there as they walk between two armed individuals.

and no gives a real shit because the people are poor and black, and living in neighborhoods where such events are expected.

Shoot up a suburban mall, or business meeting, and people are concerned.

America has a problem solving this problem mostly because it is in denial about it.

No doubt 10, 20, 50, 100 people shot is horrific and we need to deal with that.

But it IS NOT normal or expected that children can be shot while being read stories sitting on their grandparent's lap just because they live in "the 'hood".
