BLM returning staff to Gold Butte after 2014 standoff with Bundy family

Two years after its hasty retreat from the Gold Butte area at the end of the 2014 standoff with the Bundy family, the federal government is moving back into the remote corner of Clark County 110 miles northeast of Las Vegas.

“Due to safety and security concerns, BLM employees have not conducted field work in the Gold Butte area in northeastern Clark County since early 2014,” BLM officials wrote in a release Friday.

Those safety concerns stemmed from an armed standoff with Cliven Bundy, his sons, fellow ranchers, Las Vegans and militia and patriot groups that had gathered on Bundy’s Bunkerville ranch in April 2014 ...
