I got 50 of 100 or "Quite Priviledged" I wouldn't disagree with that.
How about you?

(3,448 posts)Tall (over 6'), dark (hair & eyes), and handsome (literal definition of my name), white male, born into a society designed for people (who look like) like me.
I've still struggled to find my place in this society. I used to think the problem was me, but I finally realized this is a society run by sociopaths. Little wonder I don't fit in.
I succeed fairly easily, except in my own mind.

(2,931 posts)Not sure what BOS is but probably something similar.
Half of the questions are worded very poorly. For example "Do you buy new clothes at least once a month"... I haven't bought new clothes in fucking years, but that isn't because I don't have the money to, I just hate shopping
HubertHeaver
(2,520 posts)Yes, very poorly worded questions. More like a push-poll.

(19,558 posts)I didn't realize I had that many factors in the not privileged column before, and I'm not 100% sure I do even now. I'm much more fortunate than many in the hand I was dealt.
Overall I still scored pretty high at 42.

(65,227 posts)You live with 33 out of 100 points of privilege.
Youre not privileged at all. You grew up with an intersectional, complicated identity, and life never let you forget it. Youve had your fair share of struggles, and youve worked hard to overcome them. We do not live in an ideal world and you had to learn that the hard way. It is not your responsibility to educate those with more advantages than you, but if you decide you want to, go ahead and send them this quiz. Hopefully it will help.

Do people really want to cloak themselves in the victim-hood garment?
Ummm...
Read the question again and tell me exactly what response they are going for and their target audience? Do forgive if I am so crass as to point this out.

(37,457 posts)I'll stipulate it seems the quiz was poorly written, but you might want to have a word with the AA, LGBT and Jewish communities, among others.
Um, I am a member of one of those communities.
My problem is with the poor me I am a victim. Do white male heterosexuals get privilege? Yes, no doubt. Does that mean you cannot succeed on your own, no and people need to stop blaming others for whatever lack of success they have.

Youre underprivileged. The world is not a fair or ideal place and you know that because you grew up with several identities that the world is not kind to. You had a lot of challenges to overcome simply to get on a level playing field with most people in the world. It is not your job to educate the world about its injustices, but if you choose to, go ahead and send them this quiz. Hopefully it will help.

(301 posts)But I think the point of that question was that children of the very rich rarely have to work in service industry jobs like that. I'm sure that's also true, if not more so, of factory work and construction. A lot of the questions could be worded differently.

(37,457 posts)The buying clothes once a month thing struck me as really odd. Yea, I could buy clothes every month, but WHY ? To me that's just a waste of money, your mileage may vary (not you Nye, the generic you).

(25,406 posts)is based only on his own personal experience. He feels bad for his buddies whose parents insist that they get a job as a barista or waiter to contribute to their college tuition, so that made the test, but he's never met, or is ever likely to meet, someone who works in a chicken processing plant.
Oh and BTW, it's also amusing that the tester thinks that not having student loans and not knowing what "Sallie Mae" is are always signs of being privileged.

(24,875 posts)The children of the truly rich, particularly the staggeringly rich, have probably never had to do a 2am closing of a bar (unless it was parent bankrolled) or smile at scumbags for a tip to pay bills. Not ever.
Those that are moderately well off now, and from lower to middle income and wealth families, probably went to college and probably did whatever they had to do to either pay for tuition or pay for rent and living. Mostly soft labor jobs for the children of the middle classes, not the ones that are good for losing fingers, hands, hearing, vision, mobility or getting melanoma.
There is a huge class divide in the numbers of people that do the listed "menial" jobs and the ones you mentioned. I have family that have done both.

Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The original post asks a question and the alerted post responds. The answer may be a bit sour, but hardly qualifies for a hide. It might have seemed more over the top if a question hadn't been asked for opinions in the first place.
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.
Funny, but my comment wasn't saved. Maybe I fat fingered it, but what I WANT to say is, what kind of a survey do we have to give ourselves to validate who we are that uses THIS tripe? Shame on you.

After edit, I did have to flub some of the questions because I have been called many names and traveled the world in the military. However I dont think thats what they meant when they said, "Have you ever been called a fag or a dyke", or "Have you traveled internationally". However the rest of the questions I answered correctly.

It is an online quiz. Oh my god the questions are lame! BFD.
Overall it is an interesting quiz especially when you look at our DU sample scores in this thread. Oh no a baseline!
I scored a 64. Of course they had some religious persecution questions but as an atheist I had to fit my experiences into the religious mainstreams categories. It was not that hard though.
White hetero male, so no surprises there. The only thing I lost points on was because of getting picked on at school for being small for my age, and being occasionally broke in my 20's.
