What's your perception of Trump?

Near as I can figure, there are seven possibilities.

  • idiot
  • con man
  • neofascist
  • autocrat
  • huckster
  • double-agent
  • patriot

Which of the following descriptions comes closest to your perception of Cheetoh Jesus?

(of course I've left a little room for other categories some of yall might suggest)

He's a genuine IDIOT, blundered into the nom, & a product of the luck sperm club

CON MAN with a game plan, if a bit derailed, but has more tricks up his sleeve -- I'm expecting a comeback
    3 (23%)
He's true rightwing fanatic, perhaps a white supremacist, and certainly a NEOFASCIST
    0 (0%)
Racism is convenient to him, but at heart he's a Putin/Erdowan style AUTOCRAT
    1 (8%)
Racism is sales pitch to him, but at heart he's HUCKSTER who only wants to sell hotels & got bedazzled by the limelight
    7 (54%)
He's a Clinton DOUBLE-AGENT, secretly hijacking the GOP so he can throw the election Clinton's way
    0 (0%)
He's a misguided PATRIOT, perhaps playing to the rubes, but might actually govern only slightly right of center

And before that, he was ALWAYS in the headlines - I remember the 80's and he and Ivana were ALWAYS being talked about, in Newsweek, at White House functions, opening casinos in ACNJ - basically, he wants to be America's Asif Ali Zadari (husband to Benazir Bhutto) - "Mr. 10%", Pakistan's Prime Minister before the current one, Nawaz Sharif, 10% because he allegedly demanded a 10% kickback for any project requiring government approval (an allegation amongst a dozen or more even MORE scurrilous allegations).

This is basically what Trump wants to be - he wants to make money as the Clintons have done, and he wants the limelight, he loves it.

Comparisons here are thrown about to Mussolini - I'd be careful about doing so because it is axiomatic that while Mussolini was a bad guy, he made the trains run on time, which is something hard to do, as anyone who has been to Italy can tell you. That is, he made things work for working people.

He was good at taking credit. The trains were "fixed" before he came to power. Don't overlook the power of being full of shit.

The salient point, however, is this - drawing parallels with historic figures is fraught with hidden dangers.

Full of shit? Evil? Douchebag sans pareil? All of the above, totally agree.

Nevertheless, I think lots of people don't care if they think he'll help them put bread on the table.

He got into it to sell gaudy cheap crap with his name plastered on it, and when it looked like he could actually win the nom, decided to play the marks for all he could get. If he wins, he's pulled the ultimate con. If he loses, he'll have racists, sexists, and homophobes who will be willing to shovel money his direction (see Sarah Palin).

    To me the difference being
Huckster: an alpha male/attention hog who compulsively sells, sells, sells as an adrenaline fix (seducing the customers) & doesn't care about shoddy product (to wit, his ability to govern)
Con Man: a schemer/sociopath who is always trying to trick the suckers into giving him more, more, more (and getting off more mon feeling superior to those who he swindles)

    His GOP run seems similar.

    and today

One cannot help but wonder how things would be different if the Republican elite had responded to Trump the way Bally did — by buying him off rather than fighting him. It’s not clear what form greenmail would take in a presidential campaign, but Trump is always saying he is open to a good deal.

He'll make money off the rubes after he loses, certainly, but his prestige is gone.
He's in Glenn Beck/televangelist territory now. He's utterly PNG with the Manhattan socialites he used to charm.

I've been thinking all along that the majority of his game was just an act and that he's really not this batshit crazy.

I think, for the most part, he's an actor playing a role. He even admits it once in a while, like when he said that he brings out "the wall" when he thinks that his audience is losing interest or dosing off.
