(1,098 posts)Tens of millions of gun owners. The idea that things would be different without the NRA is silly.
The NRA is simply a product of those tens of millions of gun owners. It doesn't have any magical powers itself. The power it does have comes from those tens of millions of gun owners.
So in reality it's '56 Senators just voted against gun safety. Here's what it cost American gun owners.'

(22,666 posts)should they vote for ANY restrictions on guns. US gov't is cowed by them.
NRA is a pimp for gun manufacturers. They exist to protect their sales and profits -- and that's all.
It's the MONEY, honey. Coming and going - that's all there is.
And it's worth more to the NRA and every politician they OWN than anyone's life. Anywhere. At any time. Including YOURS and your family's. How do I know that? By looking at what they DO...One week after a terrorist killed 49 people, 53 US senators voted against barring suspected terrorists from buying guns in the US. These senators got millions from the NRA. . .
You mean to tell me you haven't figured this out yet?

(5,417 posts)They have ran a few successful campaigns that have caused people to lose elections.
When somebody votes against an issue because they have a reelection comming up, they are not necessarily voting against the wills of their constituents

(20,176 posts)but can someone flag any Democrats in that picture?
Those Democrats need to be singled out for primary challenges the next time they come up for re-election.

(13,069 posts)It is an organization by and for the gun manufacturers. They wrap themselves in the flag, and use the Second Amendment against us in an attempt to make as much money as they can, without one thought of the cost to American lives. It is all about their bottom line. And people are falling for it.
And they have become so powerful that the republican senators are afraid to take one reasonable step towards helping our society rein in the destruction to our society.
Hillary is the first candidate who has openly and forcefully opposed the NRA. Dems are starting to step up (for example the filibuster), but we have a long way to go.
