LGBT activist confronts homophobe Tony Perkins: 'YOU are responsible' for the violence in Orlando

"You are responsible for hate and lies—a culture that has fueled violence against our community," says the LGBT activist. "What do you have to say for yourself, Tony Perkins? ... You are responsible—you are responsible for all of this violence. Do you see those 49 people that were murdered in Orlando. YOU created that environment, sir. ... What do you have to say for yourself, sir?...

"We don't want your prayers, Tony Perkins. We don't want your lies. We want you to stop being homophobic, we want you to stop the hate speech."

They don't put up with shit. I feel like they're the modern heirs of the movement and mindset ACT UP began. They're not afraid to get in anyone's faces. After years of milquetoast HRC bromides, GetEqual is such a breath of fresh air.

Edit: God damn, I think I have a crush on Angela Peoples.

Anita Bryant - I remember thinking, gay people don't bother me but SHE sure does.

A reader wrote in lamenting about living next door to "those kind of people", and was it so wrong to not want to live next door to "those kind of people"?

Dear Abby responded: I agree. I wouldn't want to live next door to you, either.

Perkins is a slug, but there's no indication Mateen was a follower or had ever heard of him. Mateen was, by his own admission, influenced by ISIS in particular and radical Islam in general, so I'll go out on a limb and say that had more to do with it than anything Perkins said. Some Progressives are dead set on blaming this on Christianity, colonialism, white supremacy, patriarchy, anything but the motivation stated by the actual perpetrator. I do not understand it, except as a reluctance to criticize anyone or anything from the Third World for anything, even when richly deserved, and even when avoidance of making such criticism takes more contortions than an Olympic gymnast.

Mateen seem to have been dealing with his own sexual ambiguities and struck out in an insane, murderous way. Rejection of one's sexuality is usually rooted in religious conditioning. It's a Shakespearean, "doth protest too much" thing taken to the extreme in Orlando.

The perpetrator is a member of an outgroup.

When we have another 'normal' (or ingroup) spree shooter; a Jason Dalton, a Robert Lewis Dear, a Dylann Roof, a Craig Stephen Hicks, an Adam Lanza, etc., there will be no mention of collective responsibility, the killers are their own little islands that were not influenced by anyone or anything else. Mental illness, job loss, drug abuse, lack of a telepathic hive mind that apparently Muslims must have, something so the collective can wash their hands clean of the killings.

We'll see these same contortions and dodging from the 'other side' of this current shooting when it happens by the next Jason Dalton, as in the same people who want to make it known that Omar Mateen was a Muslim will be the same people who want to make it known that Mr. 'normal' spree shooter will be mentally ill and nobody else is responsible. Nobody.

The only thing we can do or should do here is realize our biases, in particular our ingroup and outgroup biases.

The one thing I took away from my graduate Psychology classes with a Federal Medical Center Psychological Examiner many serious criminals do not think the same way most people think. Add to that after caught and sent to Court they are not forthcoming with motives.

I like the TP who was in "Psycho" much better.

Maternity may have some admiration for ISIS but I have little doubt his self loathing for being bi or just gay caused him to lash out. The call proclaiming his love for ISIS seems convenient.
