... they arrived at Royal Hotpot and Sushi Bar in Quincy the night of June 11. (135,425 posts)McDonough, O'Sullivan, Mulhern?
Sounds like the roll call in a South Boston public school in the sixties...
And why in hell isn't "O'Sullivan" in jail?
Mulhern, McDonough, and O'Sullivan were arrested that night and arraigned on June 13. All three pleaded not guilty. Mulhern faces three counts of assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and one count of committing a civil rights violation. O'Sullivan faces the same charges in addition to a charge of defacement of property. McDonough faces two counts of assault and battery, one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and one count of committing a civil rights violation.
O'Sullivan has had multiple run-ins with the Quincy police, including 16 separate entries for assault and battery on police officers, according to the police report.

It would be nice if the jail term was long enough for them to dry out, but that's not going to happen for a simple assault and minor property damage.

(8,958 posts)What the hell is that suppose to mean?
Does it mean they said something that might 'seem' like it was racist, but maybe it's not??
Or maybe it 'seems' racist only to certain people? ... Is that it?
That's a pretty short article but it repeats 'seemingly racist language' three times
That is so full of shit I want examples.. give me at least 2 or 3 examples of what is 'seemingly racist language'
Because if it 'seems' like a racist remark, you know what, that means it IS a racist remark!

(62,444 posts)The story appears to have been written on the basis of what the police report says that witnesses said. In other words, the news article is a third-hand account. The reporter does not directly know what the accused men said, and does not directly know what the witnesses said to the police.
One way to phrase it would be "according to the police, the witnesses said the men used racist language" which is unwieldy. I am not familiar with MA law on racially motivated crimes, but if the men may possibly be charged with such a crime, then the men may deny having used racist language. In that case, whether or not they did remains to be proven in court. For the paper to report it as a fact, based on second hand information, puts the paper in the position of potentially besmirching the reputation of these fine gentlemen accused of a crime.
