Took me a while to figure it out...
They're taking down Ryan.
Yes, the "#NoFlyNoBuy" bill is a teaspoon to empty an ocean. Is it a serious threat to the proliferation of gun violence? Not a bit. It will do very, very little in actual fact.
But the GOP has their marching orders from LaPierre and the NRA: NO LEGISLATIVE RESTRICTIONS OF ANY KIND. No votes on them, no meaningful discussion, even. The NRA operates on the "camel's nose" assumption and assume that any successful action at all, no matter how ineffectual, represents weakness and a step onto some "slippery slope" toward Second Amendment DOOM and TYRANNY! So, no action, AT ALL, is the demand of the deathtool oligarchs and their NRA mouthpieces.
This action, on the "No Fly, No Buy" bill may do almost nothing in any real sense, against gun violence. But they suckered Paul Ryan into suspending the session and turning off the cameras, which may well have been exactly what they wanted. Now it's building momentum. Nothing makes people suspicious and nosy like being told "you can't see that."
Ryan is boxed into a very tight corner, there are no good exits and no good options for him.
appreciatively,

(8,419 posts)Keep meaning to do some research on the House Member who is providing video. He is obviously going to get sanctioned so he must be in a very safe district with promises of support from others.
The Dems FORCED MSM to cover this by steaming the video. Video>Social Media>Traditional Media, so they created the story, bypassed msm, created buzz, force coverage, created a HUGE story.

And I completely agree with your assessment of the situation. Poor Pauly, caught between a rock and a hard place.

It won't happen quickly, but this is the first and biggest, most publicized blow- making Ryan look unreliable to the NRA. He can't maintain control.

(11,911 posts)in the House sit-in. Some yahoo replied back to me that Sandy Hook was a false flag operation staged by our government, then tried to change it into an abortion issue. Yeah, what to say to someone like that. I replied with:
There are no words to say to any person who believes that Sandy Hook was a false flag, except to say that the next bill the Democrats do this for should be one that increases and guarantees care for mental health problems in this country. You're right, my number is wrong. According to stophandgunviolence.org, the number is now at 113,273 since Sandy Hook. Regarding the abortion figure, if you haven't had one, known someone who has had one/needed one, known someone who has died from a botched procedure, or have female body parts of your own, it should be none of your concern. It seems many pro-life supporters are great at supporting the fetus, wanting to force women to their will (sometimes against medical advice) but could care less once the child is born and in need of medical care, food, education, jobs, etc.
Didn't like posting that on John's page, but I felt I had to reply.
