What was intended

at the time of the revolution....the fastest guns men were known as minute men.
They earned that name because they were very fast and skillful and able to make one shot per minute.
Clearly gun control should be aimed at the original intent...one shot per minute for a very skilled guns man.

Anything more than that was beyond the understanding of the founding fathers.

A standard Brown Bess musket used by the British could be loaded and fired at a rate of three shots per minute. Colonial muzzle loaders were similar. Early rifles were much slower than that because of the tight fit of the bullet in the muzzle of the gun required. But still, not the derivation of the term.

The term "Minuteman" was based on the ability of the colonists to be ready to muster and fight "at a minute's notice." Euphemistic, but more accurate etymologically.

I feel that the 2nd amendment is one of our strongest amendments.

In my opinion, it gives the citizens the power to fight an oppressive domestic government as well as gives the population a means of defense from any alien invaders.

Much of DU disagrees with me, but that's how I feel.

I personally don't blame a tool for the root problem. 33,000 firearms deaths, 2/3rds are suicide, 1/3rd is homicide with 70% of them being handgun related and the vast majority being gang or domestic related.

I support our Democratic representatives fighting for background checks and waiting periods. I would not support an outright ban.

My flame suit is on, so I'll probably respond tomorrow morning.

You are spectacularly wrong about the origin of 'minute men' and you are sadly uninformed about the technology of firearms extant at the time of the revolution.
