Thu Jun 23, 2016, 06:03 PM
Jun 2016

Even the ACLU thinks what the Senate Dems voted for and what House Dems want is not constitutional.

It's as if the entirety of the Democratic party has suddenly decided: "Fuck Due Process!" Yes, it would be awful nice if we could keep firearms out of the hands of terrorists.

And, we could do that in any number of ways; but, most of them directly contravene the US Constitution's Fifth Amendment, and voting in favor of secret government lists is one of those.

Even if someone hates the Second Amendment, this isn't the way to fix this.

It's setting the precedent that we can strip people of their Constitutionally protected rights by adding their name to a secret government list.

That's bad, it's just horribly bad.

Stop and think, what rights are we going to suspend for "suspected terrorists" next? People who have never been accused or indicted for any crime whatsoever.

We went though this all before with the Red Scare and McCarthyism, J. Edgar Hoover loved to keep secret lists, Martin Luther King was on one.

It was fucked up and terrible then, it's fucked up and terrible now.

We've just exchanged "Communists" for "Terrorists".

Be careful you aren't suddenly, secretly named as a "Terrorist".

didn't think the Dems are pandering. They are greatful that someone, anyone, is listening to their pleas and trying to do something about it.

One of the purposes of the sit-in is to get public attention and then, hopefully, get public action. Every Rep that spoke to the crowd outside emphasized that this bill was just one step of many they'd like to take (the ultimate being universal background checks).

Jamie Raskin spoke and he said all the illegal guns they picked up in Baltimore homocides this summer came from surrounding red states because MD has some very strict gun laws.
