Ivanka Trump Sued for Allegedly Copying $785 Shoe Design

Fashion entrepreneur and shoe designer Ivanka Trump is being called out as a thief by high-end Italian footwear company Aquazzura. The footwear brand filed suit against Trump for allegedly stealing at least three of its designs and using them in her own, eponymous shoe line, the Huffington Post reports. Also named in the suit is Marc Fisher, the manufacturer Trump collaborates with, as well as two other companies. The suit accuses the companies of “repeated infringement” and “deceptive trade practices.”

One of the main complaints in Aquazzura’s suit, which was filed Tuesday in a Manhattan federal court, is related to the super sexy Wild Thing shoe ($785), a fringey, high-heeled sandal that looks almost identical to Trump’s Hettie stiletto ($145), which sells through retailers like Bloomingdales, Lord and Taylor, and Nordstrom. Let’s compare the two designs below: fringe covered in the front, reddish orange, and an ankle-wrapped tie with tassles. We think they look pretty similar, but Aquazzura will have to let a judge decide.

I refuse to buy anything with the Trump name on it.

And honestly, most fashion tends to trickle down from the high end fashion lines. 2nd Tier designers like Ivana Trump (who I doubt doesn't actually design anything) will look at the higher end designers and be inspired by what they are doing. But that shoe is an EXACT rip-off and something I'd expect to see for sale over at Cowtown Flea Market (that place is loaded with Copycat designer crap)

I was in Marshalls and saw this lovely shirt in the clearance section, was going to try it on and then I saw the ivanka name and put it down. I walked to another area and saw another woman pick up the shirt. When she saw the label she got a eww look on her face and put it down. I had a good chuckle seeing that.

Obviously ripping off high-end fashion designs is a multi-billion dollar industry but not something you would expect from a designer charging $185 for a pair of shoes.

Obviously there are a slew of no-name brands that follow what's hot on the top Fashion Runways then make very similar designs for their shoppers of stores like Wal-Mart, Target and other low-end stores that sell cheap made products. But even then there isn't an exact duplication of the items - more of an 'inspiration' so to speak.

And there is also the pure rip-offs of designs that are usually sold at Flea Market booths or out of the trunk of someone's car. The 'Fakes' which are mainly done with handbags but other products get ripped off too.

But Ivanka Trump's line is a bit more upscale and found at better department stores like Macy's or Norstrom. For what she sells her product she should not be ripping off high-end designers but putting out originals or at least shoes that are inspired by what's hot in fashion.

That shoe, which she is charging $185, is identical to the one that is almost $500. I'm sure there are dozens of shoes with ankle wrap straps or fuzzy strings on the toe strap, but better designers in the price range of Ivanka Trump, would not make something identical to the more expensive price ranges. They would find a way to change up the shoe just a bit to make it their own.

So I think the designer of the original shoe has every right to be sued when another brand is selling the same shoe for $185!

and overnight, knockoffs appear. Same with the Duchess of Cambridge and celebrities on the red carpet. It doesn't seem that there are a lot of lawsuits over that- not that I know the law regarding such things.
