Wife of Nation's Lowest-Paid Governor Takes Waitressing Job

By MARINA VILLENEUVE, ASSOCIATED PRESS BOOTHBAY HARBOR, Maine — Jun 24, 2016, 12:07 PM ET

The wife of Maine Gov. Paul LePage has taken on a summer waitressing job near their Boothbay home. And she's saving up for a Toyota RAV4.

Ann LePage had kept quiet about the gig, but her husband told a crowd at a recent town hall that his wife took a job to "supplement" his lowest-in-the-nation $70,000 salary. This year, the Republican governor unsuccessfully proposed to more than double his successor's salary to $150,000.

LePage worked her first double shift on Thursday at McSeagull's, a bustling restaurant touting double-wrapped bacon scallops and harbor views. She says being a waitress is "something I've always, always wanted to do."

She says following through on her interest is something her late mother, who passed away last fall, would have been proud of.

but I could live quite well on that salary. And that's here in Santa Fe which is supposed to be so expensive that no one can live here.

Of course, if she really always wanted to wait tables, then good for her.

It's not really all that posh, but does attract more than its share of snobs. Ten, twenty miles away, anyone could live comfortably on $70,000 a year. The cynic in me says she's spinning this summer job to draw attention to state's meager Governors salary.

LePage: Every time there’s a gun control debate ‘I go buy a gun’

http://stateandcapitol.bangordailynews.com/2016/06/23/lepage-every-time-theres-a-gun-control-debate-i-go-buy-a-gun/

<snip>

LePage also spoke at some length about attempts at gun control legislation that are swirling in Congress. He argued that the problem isn’t access to guns; it’s an inadequate system for treating mental illness.

“If you go after guns without going after mental illness, you are not going to accomplish anything,” he said. “Ninety-five percent of Americans who own guns are not bad people.”

LePage said his reaction whenever the debate begins anew is to head to a sporting goods store.

“Every time there’s a big gun battle about one of these incidents, I go buy a gun,” said LePage to applause from the audience. “I have a big safe of them. I have five that I bought and I haven’t shot them.”

Ah, Paul LePage...this is the bastard who's declared war on minimum-wage workers...

...but can't make it on the $33 per hour the State of Maine pays him.

70k isn't a lot of money for a family, but working as waitstaff during the tourist season can build up a nice down payment for a new Toyota quickly.

I think it's cool she is going out and doing her own thing to get what she wants. She is under no obligation to be her husbands arm candy.
