these older white people lived before Thatcherism, just like the older people in the US who lived before Reaganism chipped away from the new deal. Both groups voted for thatcher and Reagan and don't get it they voted away their best interests when they embraced the corporate takeover of their governments right under their noses.

When leaders successfully transfer blame from themselves to some easily indentifiable "other" people get fooled and think they are voting for one thing, when they are really voting for something else.
