General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWhy the right hates teachers, firefighters and cops.
Teachers are smarter, firefighters are braver and stronger and cops are authority figures.
I've mentioned my encounters with folks on the right before on DU...one said of firefighters "It's God's will, some houses will burn." And of cops "I get my public safety from the barrel of a gun."
Many of these folks home school their kids because they think they are better teachers and they can control what their kids learn.
So, there you have it in a nutshell: mistrust of learning, distrust of authority and jealousy of those who risk their lives for others.
Not a pretty picture.

(96,793 posts)Some people never grow up and learn to respect authority figures. Even here on DU, you can see it nearly every day.
I'm not saying that respect shouldn't be earned. But the vast majority of teachers, firefighters and cops do earn that respect.

(17,796 posts)teachers, cops, and firefighters have to earn disrespect. A few have, very few.

(4,517 posts)I'd also have a lot less trouble 'respecting authority' if I saw a lot less abuse of authority. There is a big difference between respect for the person, and respect for the uniform.

of the wording RMoney used when he was saying we don't need more fireMEN, policeMEN and teachers!
Probably noted somewhere here, but I have not seen it. Apparently there are no female firefighters or police officers.

Can't have any facts that aren't approved, and they don't want their children to question their beliefs.

(2,529 posts)out perform public school kids although I read some guy in some blog rant (so take it with a grain of salt) talking about how statistics on this were skewered because fewer home schooled kids went on to college. I have no idea about this because I'll be the first to admit that I've never really researched the subject, so I'll defer to my DU compatriots who have. But, in the last decade or two, I do know that I've read that the number of people home schooling their kids has increased greatly. I know part of the reason is religious conservatives and other right-wingers not wanting their kids exposed to subjects like multiculturalism, evolution, science in general, other races, increasing tolerance toward gays, prayer and religion in public schools (or lack thereof), the vilification of public school teachers and the Liberal Agenda in general. But, I hope I'm to be forgiven if I wonder if some parents would be the best educators if they go to protest events with signs like: "Make English Our Offical Language." "No Pubic Option." "I Am Joe the Plummer." Obama Lier In Chief." And my absolute favorite: "Thank You Fox News For Keeping Us Well Infromed."

(1 post)So...Let me ask you something about your post.
"I'm just thinking of the cops (must be Democrats) who did the banksters (must be Democrats) bidding during Occupy.
You're probably right that the average right wing working class person (must be republican) hates the cops."
Did I dissect that correctly? Seems like you are fighting for the other team. You are obviously against the working man. I was under the impression that we were in this sorry state because of the bankers.
And to who ever posted this "article". Whatever happen to responsible journalism? How about citing a source in your paragraph? I know there are other articles on the site that ref. what you are talking about, but we should try to keep the site factual without you spewing what appears to be your opinion.

(2,577 posts)Teachers??? Well, they are LAZY and they only work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and "get summers off." I'm married to the WORST of all teachers .... college Perfessers ... them ivory-towered pointy-headed liebruls with no sense. Trust me, right wingers are ALWAYS quick to share THAT wisdom with me on a regular basis.
Police officers? Well, they are always eating donuts and faking overtime.
Firefighters? Who needs 'em? We had volunteer firefighters in the good ol' days.
Executives on the other hand, "work hard" and "you have to pay for talent."

(1,187 posts)Once the public sector bailed out the private sectors crash of the economy by shifting the losses to the public sector and giving them 13 trillion in 0 to .025% they needed a scapegoat so they blamed the public sector workers their pensions, the retired on social security, taxes on the rich and public schools.

(2,198 posts)the RW banksters, loan sharks, and Wall Street fund managers. Public sector employees benefits and retirements have, in the past, not even been half of what the private sector employees could expect. Now the public sector, lower paying, lower benefit jobs are looking great compared to "nothing." Public service workers have always been look down on by the more well healed private sector employees. A secretary in the Fed gov. might earn $35,000 starting out while her private sector counterpart earned around 45-50K per year. But only a select group would be hired in the private sector...a certain look... Anyway, survival envy is setting in and the money managers have successfully turned the working class on each other.
