(149,593 posts)It was funny the way that photo happened.
There was a big storm out at sea, and the waves coming in to our beach were enormous, up to the top of our Pier. So the city closed the Pier since there was a safety risk.
So what did we do? Everybody trooped down beneath the Pier to watch the waves, which was much more dangerous. I thought the view from underneath was amazing and I took many photos.
Thank you for your kind words!

(8,175 posts)When I lived in Colorado we got tornado warnings every now and then, and of course everyone came out to stand in the street and stare at the sky.
We didn't usually get them, and it wasn't as risky as if it was tornado alley, but still...

(17,107 posts)I think everyone along the coast went out to look at the big waves this year. Quite a sight, weren't they?
Nice light coming through the pier supports, by the way.

(149,593 posts)This is actually a picture from 2007, December!
The waves were amazing, for sure.
Thanks for noticing the light! It was purely coincidental........a lucky shot!

(31,384 posts)This was a challenging assignment. Capturing motion--without just being a blurred out of focus shot--is tough.
There were some really wonderful entries in this contest!
I happened to get lucky one morning when I was walking my dog to the White Point Gardens in Charleston and there
were several dogs chasing each other at the off-leash park. I can't let Snowy off leash because she's a runner, but
she happily sat by my side while I snapped away and managed to get the Playtime at the Park shot.
Thanks for an interesting contest, Mz Pip!
Here was Snowy (on the right) greeting that white Lab on the left in the Playtime photo:

(2,367 posts)Thank you everyone for voting for my photo...I am very grateful! This photo was taken on Block Island RI, one of my favorite places in the world. We rented this amazing, rustic beach house a few summers ago. The first morning I got up early and opened the French doors out to the deck. They had these curtains hung over the doors, I guess to keep insects out, and they just started blowing in the wind. It was so beautiful I grabbed my camera. This shot really captures how I feel about that place...just magical!❤️ Congrats to all the other winners...beautiful work!

(22,380 posts)and one of the most runaway winners ever. A photo I will never forget. I'm extremely fond of the other winners, a contest with not many entries but excellent photographs.
This was fun, and congratulations to the winners, the finalists and all who entered.
