John Oliver knocks it outta the park on Brexit

Last edited Sun Jun 26, 2016, 02:14 AM - Edit history (2)

I haven't been able to confirm it, but I saw a news article a couple days ago that said this was not allowed to be broadcast in England until after the vote.

.
Edit/Update

Confirmed, this was delayed for viewing in the UK until after the election.

John Olivers show is carried in the UK by the Sky Atlantic network, that is owned by conservative media mogul Rupert Murdoch

Update 2
For any mobile users who can't spare the data...

It's 15 minutes long so I cant summarize the whole thing but some of the hi lights, he said ...

Most of the arguments for leaving were lies and bullshit

Of the Leave supporters, a big chunk are flat out racists

He also covered some details on how much money the UK put into the EU and what they get out of it

Covered some of the business and trade problems leaving would cause

And then basically said it would be batshit crazy to leave

My building has been fighting for over a decade to allow CenturyLink to offer DSL or Comcast to upgrade their equipment, who has the government-granted monopoly on cable in our part of the city, to be allowed to offer service.

I use it on my phone and laptop.
In the windows version, select turbo mode from the main menu.
Compresses video and graphics, also has a built-in ad blocker.

My 401k took quite a hit because of those idiot Leave voters, and it's not going to recover before I am set to retire this November. Racist fuckers.

Not surprised that it was suppressed. It was just too damn good.

which get strictly enforced in the lead-up to votes. No broadcaster is allowed to put forward anything clearly on one side of a vote without giving equal time and prominence to the opposing view(s) (they literally end up counting jokes on comedy programmes - which can then be a joke itself). Oliver would have known that couldn't go out in the UK until after the vote.

Love this, too, from "Meeting Venus": "How they hate each other!"

Cold Swedes
Stupid Poles
Greasy Greeks
Hate each other!
Dirty communists
Dirty fascists
Never speak to one another.
Cheeky Czechs
Lazy Latvians
Angry Austrians
etc.

The song at the end wraps things up into a neat package in a way that Oliver could not do during his diatribe. I suspect that he understood that song might prevail. As great as it was...

Sadly, it did not.

Anti-intellectualism strikes again.

He deals with the topic in an amusing way, but seeing this after the vote, it is nothing but depressing.
