So Texas wants to texit.

Well don`t let the door hit in your ass. Just remember, that when the next disaster hits, you are on your own. Don`t ask for help from the rest of us and our government. Remember our government is no longer yours. You no longer have to follow our laws. Carry all the weapons you want. Frack the hell out of every piece of land you own. Remember everything you produce and export to the united states will have a tax on it just as if it was coming from another country. Oh, wait you are another country.
If Mexico tries to invade your country, make sure you replace every gun, bullet, airplane, tank and what every else will be removed by your former country when you decided to go rogue. And make sure you buy a few ships to protect you shore line. Baseball, football, basketball, well you will have to get used to playing each other as currently our pro teams as well as collage teams do not play foreign teams. Jerry Jones would not like that to much.
Everyone coming in and out of the country of Texas will need a passports so set up entry points to enter and leave your country. You might as well get your federal roads repaired before you check out because they will be quite expensive to repair on your own. Make sure you get your own banks set up and print some money for your country to use. I am sure there is more but if you come up with solutions this than you might have a chance to make as the country of Texas or whatever you want to call yourselves.

2. You lose your military bases and any federal grants to your colleges and Universities

(good luck UTA and TECH). The disaster relieve is just the beginning of the end.

4. Secession is unconstitutional and illegal

Texas v. White

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_v._White

Texas Republicans could fuck up the Senate and insure the Democrats do not take it back, but it would require Texas breaking up into five separate states, on of which must keep the name of "Texas".

Such a move could insure an additional eight Republican Senators out of 1008, plus we would ahve to add four stars to the flag's field of blue.

17. Shouldn't there be a way for states to leave the union though?

It doesn't seem right that a group can join an organization, and then it can never leave no matter how much the organization changes.

There should be some Constitutional way for a state to leave.

19. Nope.

I wouldn't want to live in a nation where they could, either.

6. Well that was a pretty good rant

Not like it will ever happen, remember when a few other states tried to 'exit'? I don't think there is a single statement here that is correct. Tax their exports? lol, we have NAFTA and are actively pursuing free trade with Vietnam for heaven's sake. I'm pretty sure texas would fall under one free trade agreement or another.

8. No, it won't happen, but if it did, their problem wouldn't be exports and trade

so much as the fact that there'd no longer be a federal government to get money from. No Social Security, Medicare, funds for development, infrastructure, national security, etc., unless they come up with some version of those things on their own, which means a tax system. And we know how much the right-wingers love taxes.

11. And taxes here are already pretty high.

It's not jokingly called "Taxas" by the locals for nothing. State sales tax, property taxes, and many other taxes and fees are pretty high compared to a lot of other states.

Bush and Perry also buried a lot of them as "fees" to pretend they weren't raising taxes and to make the overall numbers look better than they really are.

Of course, corporate taxes are another story entirely.

7. No, actually, it doesn't.

Support for secession in TX rarely exceeds 20-25%. It's just something the GOP throws around once in a while to get people jacked up.

Clearly, it works.

9. God, the Texas bashing is more out of control than usual

Only around 20 percent of Texans favor secession. Damn, I think these people go to bed at night cursing under their breath about Texas. Obsessed much?

13. Texas will not leave the Union.

If it votes to (which it never will), it will be retaken by force. The U.S. wouldn't tolerate such a thing.

16. That's what happened last time

They voted 80 % to leave and were beaten back into the union by force.

14. Lawrence v. Texas....

Whenever I see a Democrat argue that Texas should leave, I bring up this case. Until 2003 (13 years ago), there was a statute on the books specifically to persecute gay men. The Supreme Court is about to rule on a case relating to how many asinine requirements can Texas think up to limit access to abortion services. There are so many good, hardworking Texans that are going to be in trouble if there isn't federal oversight of it's actions.

18. Let them go to Mexico

Wouldn't that be a charming solution? I would relish seeing a white minority. Total role reversal.

Rick Perry, shoeshiner, at the airport. Inmate at a correctional facility, sewing blues. Ahhhh

20. Works for me!

Although I will say that I think there is hope for Texas. Due to demographic changes, it could be a swing state in 10 years.
