I didnt have a clue about how to run for the Senate in 2011. I knew what I wanted to fight for, but I had no experience with press scrums, fundraising, or grassroots organizing. And besides, a lot of people told me I just couldnt win. The incumbent Republican I ran against had a 73% approval rating, $10 million in the bank, and a cool truck. Many people didnt know me from a bag of doorknobs. Oh, and Massachusetts had never elected a woman as senator or governor beforea point many people drove home both publicly and privately.
A lot of good people looked at that election and told me: "Hell win. Dont even try."
Then I got a call from Patty Murray, a longtime champion for working families in the Senate. She said "Run." She knew what issues I cared about, and she talked about how I could fight for those things in the Senate. I heard her out, then I started listing the reasons why I might not be good enough for the job. She listened quietly for a couple of minutes, then cut me off with a voice as sharp as a knife: "Oh, please." She told me that women always think of reasons they arent good enough. Men never ask if theyre good enough to hold public office, Patty said. They just ask if they can raise enough money to win.

(660 posts)She's clear about her goals and her goals relate to the well-being of other people. She is not just trying to stroke her own ego or trying to convince people that she's more spiritually advanced than everyone else. She's a team player. She's a superstar.
Thank God she is on the Democratic team.

(83,668 posts)I know you love her too.
However, yallerdawg, I don't really want her to leave then Senate nor do I believe she wants it. She knows full well that Baker will put an R in that seat.

You know how hard it is for one party to win three in a row! We need to go "all in" with the best we have!
I don't see any other Democrat bringing that fire and passion like Elizabeth does!
And just between you and me, I'm glad she didn't run in the primary!

(14,007 posts)make it happen here in the Commonwealth...countless calls, doors knocked, fundraisers, etc.
She hit her stride eventually, but she was brought up to speed with a fair amount of pushing from many thousands of local helpers.
We're hoping Hillary finds another VP choice, we (all) NEED Warren right where she is, for now.

(83,668 posts)I agree, we need her in the Senate where she can do the most damage to the GOP.
