Odds are rising that you will live to be 100 years old.
That reality means re-examining your financial planning for retirement, and even how you think of retirement. Whats for certain is that retiring in your 60s, what has been standard, is less likely.
Careers will change as well. We likely will need to reinvent ourselves several times over in the course of our working life and remain open to change.
On the positive side, this gain in longevity is likely to be a boost in our healthy years of life, not of more years plagued by poor health and dementia.

(50,773 posts)Take better care of my health,
Make more time for the ones I love, especially the first generation who will not always be with me.
Have the courage to follow the dream I have had since childhood but which I ignored for the first half of my life (according to your math) order to keep a roof overhead and food on the table.
Thanks for this thread!

I take fish oil everyday, and there is lots of fish/seafood in my diet, which is nice since I live in the PNW where it is delicious and not polluted.

Regret is not good for the soul or the body, though. I hope you find a way to end it.

Have a great day.

(37,748 posts)Quite often, DU experience a minor epidemic of very narrow epidermises resulting in involuntary negative feedback. Don't sweat the small stuff; it's par for our mini-golf course-- just play past the windmills.

This is what I'd be telling my 20 year old self, mind you. I learned the lesson some time ago, but I'd be in better shape had I known it when I was even younger.

(7,393 posts)I think I finally have it together now, but in the past I would have worked less and spent more time with my family; quit smoking sooner; gotten in shape sooner. That's abut it. I have always been a saver and lived very simply, so retirement is looking okay for me.

(12,264 posts)I would have taken a nutrition class in college, learned to cook the right way, the healthy way. I now understand what it costs, literally, not to do that. I was raised on a farm, we ate beef and pork almost every day. Fried stuff, gravy all of that. Hard habit to break.
I would also say to take things easy, don't sweat the small stuff.
