This could become a criminal case for fraud over his "charity" if he kept the items:
In 2012, Donald Trump used money from one of his charities to drop $12,000 on a Denver Broncos football helmet and jersey signed by Tim Tebow, then the team's quarterback, according to a Washington Post report.
Trump bid on the item at a fundraiser in Palm Beach, Florida, for the Susan G. Komen organization, as the Palm Beach Post detailed at the time.
However, the Susan G. Komen organization received payment for the helmet and jersey from the Donald J. Trump Foundation, not the real estate mogul himself. Trump was the foundation's president, but he had not donated to the charity for three years preceding the purchase, according to the Post.
As the Washington Post noted, the astute businessman bought the signed items at the height of Tebow mania. Comparable items now sell for $415 online.

(58,785 posts)for articles on the WaPo site the day after he did that--all clearly negative. I just glanced over and there are about 6 about him, all trending unfavorable without even reading the articles. Although, how could they discuss the GOP's moral dilemma in a way favorable to anyone involved?

(6,913 posts)Of course, the foundation actually paid for it, but I bet he counted it anyway as a tax deduction.
