I have a question I'd like to ask my GD friends

I'm 68 with a bad case of COPD and have been thinking of buying an all terrain segway. What say you all. I can't walk more than a very short ways now because of this condition in fact just strolling around the yard is out of the question anymore. This would be good for my Morel mushroom foraging in the spring as well

Anyone have any actual experience with one of these to share with me.

Mods this is pretty much the only place suitable for me to post this as I would like as many to see this OP as possible. For the feedback and sharing of ideas

Not really interested in the holier than thou get off my ass and walk crowd so spare me those please.

Thanks

Heres an example of what I'm looking at: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-Segway-X2-SE-Personal-Transporter-/142019810163?hash=item21110a5373:g:rxcAAOSwQTVV7jAy

I use the liquid with a small backpack that when full, weighs less than 5 pounds and last an hour on the highest pulse.

It enabled him to use ramps to get in and out of the center he stayed at. That might be a safer option than a Segway. Just another option for you.

I retired 16 months ago and have spent at least a couple of thousands on bicycles and parts. I know with COPD cycling is not an option but I am a big fan of getting out even when it is hot or cold. Well the weather keeps it interesting.

the cost isn't that big of an issue but the mobility that it would afford me sure is. I have a highly modified, lifted, big ass tired, gas golf cart but it like a car has its limitations. A power chair has its limitations too. As does my power chair powered yard card I built for myself a few years ago. The segway would fit right in the little hole these all have in their usefulness for me, Hince my questions to all of you.

Thanks for the replies

I used to have a picture of my own personal made yard cart that I had in my sig line a few years ago. I can't find it right now or I'd post it

but in my case I can put a small ramp up two steps on our back deck and then go right in the house. Actually I'd leave it in the mud room anyway thats right off the deck

juice you can pretty much coast to the next county.

Where are you planning on using it, and are they allowed? Any liability? If it fails do you leave your $6K skateboard alone somewhere while you go to the hospital, or for help?

As someone on SS, I am not sure how useful it is for a personal vehicle. If I had a lot more money, perhaps.

It reminds me of getting a boat. One of those things that is a hole in the water into which you pour money.

I would get a powered wheelchair just because people are used to seeing those. You could customize it so it would leave the segway in its dust. And have a wet bar.

But that's just opinion...

usually to go to the grocery stores. It isn't a real high traffic area to get to the stores. They don't seen to last long or maybe the riders get too tired. They still had to walk through the store.

It will help you stay active. It will actually help you maintain your balance, since you still have it - is an awesome ability to maintain. Anything that can help you get out and enjoy your life is a great thing to have.

I'm Ms. Pragmatic when it comes to safety. My fear would be that you'd find yourself in a situation where you'd get stuck looking for sh'rooms or fall. Safety first and have fun.

I saw one in Paris cruising around with astounding, amazing ease... It was so responsive and discrete, and the rider looked totally at ease, even in the narrow aisles of a department store.

I'll be going to the city for a couple days next week. I'll have to find something to fill my day with as my wife will be in class so I'll give this OKC number a ring and set up a tour. I'd rather just stay home but my wife won't hear of me doing that so tag along I will. She's a good girl.
We fell in love soon upon my return from 'Nam but being bug nuts from the war and all I knew I wasn't ready for a long time relationship. We remained friends and as fate would have it 20 years and her having two kids later I find myself as a step dad with a most wonderful wife two sons and an awesome 9 YO Grand Daughter. Life is good

Good idea, and again Thanks
