BREAKING: Fox News Gretchen Carlson Files Sexual Harassment Lawsuit Against Roger Ailes
Fox News anchor and author Gretchen Carlson is filing a sexual harassment lawsuit against CEO Roger Ailes.
Carlson took to social media to confirm moments ago that she is no longer with Fox News, releasing a brief statement onto her Facebook page.
CNNs Tom Kludt released a revealing statement that reads in-part:
"One of the media industrys most powerful figures fired a longtime on-air personality because she refused to sleep with him and reported disparaging treatment in the newsroom.
Such are the key allegations in a sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit filed today by Fox News host Gretchen Carlson against the networks chairman and CEO Roger Ailes.

(22,025 posts)Thanks for posting this, DesertRat! This is great news because of what it portends.
In any legal proceeding such as this, there will be depositions. Gretchen Carlson will want them to be public. Roger Ailes cannot afford to be deposed and have his testimony made public. There's too much information about Fox News that he cannot allow to be broadcast to the world. It would be profoundly damaging to their brand and probably him personally.
But if she's filing the lawsuit, then she's in it for the fight and I hope she doesn't back down or get bought off.

Come to think of it, that might be a great way to bankrupt the Fox News organization.
Keep offering Carlson higher counter bids to get the settlement as high as possible.

AllTooEasy
(1,260 posts)It goes to credibility. She's probably telling the truth about Ailes and other network execs. I hope she is! Even a person who spent her life spewing right wing lies everyday doesn't deserve that. It's just difficult to go from "Gretchen the professional Liar" to "oh now I believe her".
I hope her story atleast encourages more women to come out. Maybe some good will come out of her disgraceful life.

(10,269 posts)You know, I wouldn't put it past fox to use that as a defense..
Your honor, we PAID THAT WOMAN to go on air and lie to idiots. So not only is she a liar, (Ill let you fill in the rest...)
Fox is already allowed by Court Decision to proactively MISINFORM it's viewers, so it wouldn't be a stretch for them to make this argument re her lawsuit
DesertRat
(27,995 posts)Gretchen Carlson is a rw tool, but I think it takes a lot of guts to stand up to Ailes like she is.

I have zero sympathy for her. She was an enabler of the very culture she is now suing.

(29,503 posts)In the same vein, remember Michelle Malkin, who - as an ethnic American - gave support to the Republican agenda around the same time as Ann Coulter when she was popular?
Natalee Holloway disappeared, and Malkin went on and on about why was everyone talking about Natalee Holloway ("white woman syndrome" , and she made some super harsh statements, belittling her family's awareness efforts (if I recall correctly) (or rather, writing oped's like 'who cares?', i.e., here http://michellemalkin.com/2005/06/29/natalee-holloway-who-cares/ ).
Then sadly, it later happened that a member of Malkin's own family went missing, and that was when Malkin sent out an alarm about HER missing family, and she felt compelled to repeat the alarm every so often because no progress was being made.
There's a proverb about this, isn't there, something about glass houses. But of course, as long as the money's good, most Republicans not only never learn, they refuse to even TRY.

(16,296 posts)When you turn on Fox and see the various "experts", "consultants", and eye-candy females. They are there for some reason and , from what I've seen and heard from them, it isn't their brain-power or in-depth analysis of issues. That entire network is a joke with Ailes as the chief clown.

The basis of the model is flashy graphics and flashing some skin.
The removed the desk so you could see the dames' gams. Clearly the only priority for women there is looks. Sorry that sounds harsh but it is. The blonde who used to smile and agree with Douchee and Killme was replaced by a new younger version ( the reality show "star" who had been on The View). When Greta Van Susteren went to Fox she got her eyes done explaining that it was what was expected there. Finally - The Five ***sorry on Edit I meant Outnumbered *** - the only purpose of that show is a soft soft core leg show in the late afternoon.
I support her and anyone else who claims to be abused. It's just not surprising with that organization.

(6,045 posts)Steve Doocy was hitting on her as well which is what led Roger to put the moves on her! DOUBLE NASTY! ...And I'm a guy! LOL! Working at FOX "News" must be like working at the real life version of the show "Mad Men"!
Having said that, Gretchen Carlson never had much sympathy on air for women in her position or even victims of rape! I'm not saying i would want any woman to have to deal with such disgusting pig headed behavior but it just seems like Conservatives, male or female, don't give DAMN about anyone else suffering & actually belittle it but if it happens to them then THE WORLD MUST STOP!!!

(29,199 posts)I think all repukes have the potential to sexually harass women that work for them.
When they say "Make America Great Again" what they mean is 1960s (before Vietnam)... Think "Mad Men".
Gretchen should not have been surprised... I'm sure she got the vibe from him long before having sex with him was a condition of employment.
Hope he loses his job...

(1,820 posts)It is clear Fox treats woman as objects and dresses them to emphasize their features. The sexualization of women is disgusting and women that participate in that behavior should be cautious as it often comes back to hurt them deeply.
I am very sorry for Gretchen - she didn't care about other women's rights - and yet!
Many women follow power and accept the abuse that comes with it - making it harder for other women to reject such advances and treatment.
I find it hard to forgive any women that does such.

Why the hell does steve doocy keep grabbing Carlson's arm.
