Here's What Gretchen Carlson Wrote A Year Ago About Sexual Harassment: TPM

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/gretchen-carlson-essay-sexual-harassment

By Allegra Kirkland, Published : July 6, 2016, 1:54 PM EDT

Gretchen Carlson, the recently fired Fox News anchor who on Wednesday filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the network’s CEO and chairman, Roger Ailes, has written before about being subjected to unwelcome on-the-job advances, grossly sexist treatment, and unwanted touching.

In an essay published last June in the Huffington Post, Carlson recounted early experiences with sexual harassment as a Miss America winner seeking to parlay her fame into a career in news. She recalled being forcibly kissed by a top TV executive after a meeting, and having a PR executive who also claimed to want to advance her career in journalism force her head into his crotch in his car on their way to dinner. In another instance, a cameraman at the Richmond, Virginia station where she started her career made comments about her breasts.

Carlson recounted blaming herself for these incidents, saying she "stayed silent" out of the fear she “wouldn’t be believed.” The men who harassed her “were powerful” while she “had no power."

“Like so many young women who are the victims of harassment, I worried for months that I had invited his advances in some way, or worse, that people would think I had,” she wrote of the incident with the Virginia cameraman. “I hadn’t done anything wrong, but still I felt shame.”

(further down)

According to the lawsuit Carlson filed against Ailes, she had already experienced numerous instances of sexual harassment while at Fox News by the time this essay was published. She charged that her former co-host on “Fox & Friends,” Steve Doocy, behaved in a “sexist and condescending way” towards her during her seven-and-a-half years on the show, belittling her contributions and treating her as a “blond female prop.” When Ailes caught wind of these complaints, she alleged, he called her a “man hater” and responded by demoting her and substantially reducing her compensation.
________________________________________________________________________________________

She has taken on one of the biggest people in the media..We will see what happens..It will be ugly. Very very ugly.. Perhaps a settlement but who knows? This law suit is following her beliefs the 3rd paragaph above. Time will tell.. What do you think will happen?

There's so much that she could force him to testify about that his deposition would have to be sealed or Fox News would be in all kinds of jeopardy. In truth, I personally do not know anything. But the nature of their business is so sleazy that common sense indicates that there must a be a heap of damaging garbage at that place.

She'd better have more than "He said/she said." Good lawyers can make mincemeat of those sorts of arguments. If she has recordings, or unimpeachable witness statements, she may get a settlement before this even goes to trial. Sort of like a bonus severance package.

I think she was terminated for the "crime" of getting older. She's fifty, and she is a former Miss America, not a former trial lawyer like Greta, the exception to the rule. Her "value added" from the Fox perspective is limited.

Also, young, fresh "talent" works for less than established news presenters.

I believe, if I am not mistaken, that this woman was brought in as a replacement for RITA COSBY, who did ten years, nearly, at Fox, with her luscious blonde locks, red lipstick and impressive assets....and then she gained weight and looked a bit less fresh, and a bit more ... mature.

And she was dumped in 2005.

S. E. Cupp, the conservative atheist, was another one of the Fox ladies--she used to put her legs up on the desk.

She jumped before she was pushed.

Looks like a pattern to me.

She worked and got rich from a lying organization that always twisted the "news" in ways to support the party that was totally into the destruction of women's equal rights.

Her work hurt women everywhere.

Her work helped bring us the disaster of Bush, did what it could to harm Obama and is one of the root causes of a candidate like Trump.

Hope she destroys Ailes, but cry me a river, Gretchen.

unsympathetic character in that enabled a bunch of vicious, some might say traitorous, wingnuts, while she took the money along with the abuse and regarded it as a "cost of doing business" rather than nipping it in the bud and calling it out straight away.

That said, here's hoping--unsympathetic as she is--she takes that jerk down.

I suspect, though, that they will mitigate their exposure -- they'll do what they did to O'Reilly's victim, throw a few million at her, make her sign a non-disclosure agreement, and move on.

while I hope she can prove her charges and Ailes gets hammered in court, I suspect that the worst that will happen is that they'll pay her off with an unspecified amount and she'll have to sign some sort of non-disclosure agreement.

They watch Fox to hear what they want to believe is true and see women in tight clothes fawn over men in power so they can get their jollies. I have said this before, Ailes finally found a woman who wouldn't play ball with him. Say what you want about her, but she was educated at Stanford!
