If you tried Bush and Cheney before a jury of Iraq War veterans I would be very sure that they would get a guilty verdict.
On March 20, 2003, the Bush administration led the US and a coalition of the willing to invade Iraq, based on false claims, including manufactured evidence that Saddam Hussein had stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction with designs to use them, that Iraqs Baathist regime was in league with al Qaeda and shared responsibility for the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks, and that US troops would liberate the Iraqi people from the depths of dictatorship.
The illegitimate war led to over one million Iraqi deaths and the deaths of some 4,486 US soldiers. The 2nd Bush administrations Iraq invasion has lasting ramifications throughout the region, and domestically, within the United States as well. Evidence has come to light in recent months that the Daesh leaders who seized once diverse and booming northern Iraq provinces, including Mosul are, in fact, the same Iraqi military leaders that were ousted and subsequently discriminated against by US occupation forces.

(10,952 posts)stand up to the Republican Party and take them on to hold them accountable for their illegal actions. All that has happened is that the Republicans/Tea Party crowd have learned that actions do not have consequences and they continue to lie/cheat/commit criminal acts and so on because the Democrats take the high road to try to move thins along. Instead the Republicans are obstructionists who continue to lie/cheat/commit criminal acts and will beat the Democrats over the head any time they can even if they use fraudulent reasoning to do so.
Remember the definition of insanity - doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. Democrats do the same thing over and over and Republican behaviour remains totally predictable. I feel like the Democratic Party perpetually wears a sign saying Hit Me.
The Democratic Party needs to stand up for itself and smack them back. Nice guys finish last.

(1,015 posts)The US pushed the UK into military action in Iraq "too early", a former British ambassador to the UN has said in the wake of the Chilcot report.
The long-awaited report said ex-Prime Minister Tony Blair had overstated the threat posed by Saddam Hussein - and military action was not a last resort.
Sir Jeremy Greenstock, UK ambassador to the UN in 2003, said Mr Blair had wanted a UN resolution backing action.
But he told the BBC senior US officials thought it was a "waste of time".
The Chilcot report was published on Wednesday having taken seven years to compile.
Sir John Chilcot - chairman of the UK's Iraq War inquiry - concluded Mr Blair had sent ill-prepared troops into battle and had "wholly inadequate" plans for the aftermath.
