City commission to discuss Confederate flag (IA)

The city of Ames Human Relations Commission will hold a special meeting tonight as a follow-up discussion to the flying of a Confederate flag by a vendor at the June 24 Bike Night on Main Street, which received an abundance of mixed responses via social media.
The discussion of the incident is the only item on the commission’s meeting agenda, which will begin at 6 p.m. in conference room 233 at City Hall.
This special meeting was requested at the last City Council meeting. The City Council requested the commission discuss a potential policy change for event vendors, along with develop a plan to hold a series of community discussions surrounding issues such as freedom of speech and racism ...
