Former police chief talks about domestic terrorism in Ozarks (MO)

SEYMOUR, Mo. (KSPR) - A former police chief of West Memphis, Ark., Bob Paudert, says thousands of home grown domestic terrorists are in the greater Springfield area.

Paudert now travels the country warning officers and deputies how to recognize anti-government people calling themselves Sovereign Citizens. He warns that these people hate law enforcement and anyone who works for the government ...

He said recruitment is up in the Ozarks.

"The Midwest is known for white supremacist, sovereigns, these anti-government groups in these hills. They have their compounds,” Paudert said. “So, yes, there are quite a few around here" ...

Paudert said sovereign citizens will have bumper stickers showing the American flag upside down. Their car will be marked as private property with no-trespassing signs, and there will even be for-sale signs in the car.

The region, like a good soil, provides some of the main nutrients needed to sustain hate groups, he said.

The area has a predominantly white population, conservative religious views and a general attitude that government should stay out of people's business.

"A certain portion of the population, they don't want to be told by the government who they should like or dislike," he said.

I am also curious about the intersection of poor whites, racism, and meth. That region is riddled with meth producers and users. The movie "Winter's Bone" presents an interesting image of the culture that has emerged from it. Where do poor white people with no one to blame but their own families find a scapegoat?
