I have to vent... I'm really upset with political discussions on FB

First, my cousin posted a picture of one of her kids in the red "Make America Great again" Trump hat, and apparently she is a Trump supporter. And her friends are too, and they are so unbelievably clueless about Trump-- they are in their own world. And of course they hate Hillary, call her amoral and evil. So disturbing.

Second, I am so sick of a large number of people-- supposedly liberal Bernie supporters-- who are unbelievably fucking obsessed over Hillary's email scandal and they are constantly posting right-wing memes and toxic anti-Hillary stuff. There is no reasoning with them on this. But they CANNOT seem to get over this or get any perspective on this issue. They don't even seem to care about the possibility of Trump winning even though they say he is bad.

It's all maddening. I can't stop worrying about this stuff.

Thanks for reading.

1. Do yourself a favor.

Get off of Facebook ASAP. I guarantee you will feel so much better leaving all that drama and BS behind.

I was only on FB to see my daughter's photos and captions, but then realized I could see all I wanted to see on her Instagram. She's quit FB too. FB is TOXIC.

2. Good advice

Even if you're Farcebook addicted, it's probably best to hang a "Gone Fishing" sign on your page, suspending everything until after the election if you want to stay on speaking terms with friends and family.

16. thanks, yeah, I know... but I'm kind of addcited and it can be a lot of fun

My problem is if I see a political post I disagree with, I just can't resist arguing with them.

But I need to start learning to let things go...

23. It can be fun.

But some of the ridiculous stuff people post can be too much to ignore. Posting facts in response to some of the memes going around FB (and the internet) is like kicking a hornets nest. Then you're the one who ends up feeling bad, just because you're a liberal and that's what we do, LOL.

24. I am on Facebook every day

That is where I interact with family and friends, but I know what you're talking about. I just "unfollow, but remain friends" with people who are posting political things that are upsetting. I am also upset with people posting things about Hillary that sound like something from a right-wing site, even though the posters are Democrats. The right wing propaganda machine has done a very thorough job. I am hopeful that in a month or two, sanity will return. Well, not for Trump supporters!

3. I feel your pain

I have cousins I can't follow--too toxic politically (but I can't unfriend, either). I got in a fight with a friend of a (former) friend today over the e-mail crap (I KNOW better than to engage, but there are only so many times....) and I have to hide posts from a couple of my immediate family to keep my cool and my mouth shut (military with RW tendencies that they picked up along the way).

4. You have to remember that this is a very very loud MINORITY

especially those who say they are liberals while they slavishly follow Fox News 'experts' and post right-wing smears against Democrats.

I am a Bernie primary supporter, and as you may know 80% of Bernie primary supporters say they are going to vote for HRC

I'm a liberal Bernie supporter who never thought the email thing or Benghazi were anything but trumped up right-wing bullshit.

10. I am not saying this is the only thing she has going for her

but if nothing else, Hillary makes republicans cry.* And that makes me feel all tingly and warm.

*As in right now - as I posted in another thread, the office Trumpster is about to cry over lack of indictment.

7. I've been doing a lot of....

"block posts from this site" lately. Not all political, but many are.

Even unfollowed a few 'friends.'

I keep in touch with family on FB, so I kind of want to hold on to it, but life's too short to see that shit pop up all over.

Aside from the fact that I don't give a crap what you ate for lunch or where you went out Friday night.

17. hide them. they wont know.

if you really care about them, pop over to their page once in a while to see what they are up to. pick and choose what to respond to.
works better that way. you can block them from posting to your page, but that they will know.

19. I've unfriended a couple of acquaintances

But I've also found that simply taking someone off all my feeds works really well. If they have something nice to say, another friend will "like" the post and then I'll see it. But if they're just popping off, I don't see any of it.

If you feel you must absolutely respond to some asinine Facebook post (and I confess, sometimes I do), make it short and to the point. No more than two sentences, and address one specific thing that you know for a fact is wrong in their post (that is, not a matter of interpretation or opinion).

22. If you "unfollow", none of their posts will show up in your newsfeed.

You can still remain "friends", without having to be subjected to all of their bullshit. I did that with my idiot brother, who has turned into a RWNJ over the years.

20. A few thoughts:

I haven't seen anything like that, thank goodness. I do believe, to my everlasting disgust, that Trump is going to be the next president, even though none of my friends or family or face book friends will be voting for him. Most of those people will cast a vote for Clinton as an emergency vote against Trump, no matter how tall the manure pile in front of the ballot box is.

I have seen a few things on FB about the email scandal; I think that this is such incredible ammunition for Republicans, (see #1) that we're going to crash and burn in November. It's pretty natural for Sanders supporters who saw this coming to be frustrated about nominating such a weak candidate. Democrats don't all have the same perspective. Some immediately swing into damage control mode, determined to deny, distract, deny, distract...while others just get angrier at the ammunition the party has been determined to provide the enemy. For the record: I think Trump is going to win. I am very, very angry about that. And the bulk of my anger is reserved for those who set it up.

I remember when I was fighting to avoid this inevitable outcome, by opposing the "inevitable" nominee. I've been told repeatedly not to fight the inevitable. Now you, and many others, are worrying about inevitability, and looking for scapegoats to vent about. What goes around comes around.

I am, instead of trying to do damage control for the train wreck that's already derailed the presidential campaign, and looking around for someone else to blame, moving on. I'm looking at what can be accomplished now, down ticket, on the platform, and further out. I'm looking at what can be done to provide a strong opposition to a Trump administration; we sure as hell need a stronger force than we had opposing GWB.

A month or two back, some here kept trying to tell me that I was grieving, that I hadn't moved on, etc., etc.. They were wrong. I've moved forward and am looking at what CAN be done. Some accused me of living in "fantasy land." Not so. I'm a hell of a lot more realistic about the current mess than many of those that were accusing me.

Perhaps this presents a learning opportunity: in the heat of a campaign, don't blind and deafen yourself to legitimate opposition in the fervor to "win." There are short-term wins, and long-term losses.

29. I don't know... I still believe in my heart that Trump is unelectable

he has pissed off too many people. The email thing is overblown and we're just in the most frenzied stage of the story. It will die down.

Hillary is not my preferred candidate, but she's not that bad either. There's just way too much negativity about her.

The main thing that will save us and Hillary is how horrible Trump is.

I've recently blocked a few friends on Facebook, and placed a dozen or so on DU on ignore. Can't imagine why I didn't avoid the idiocy before that; but now that I have finally used the buttons, both DU and Facebook have netted an easy 27 additional IQ points.

Who the hell does that and why?

If I had a nickel for every time a DUer posted "Look what I found on Facebook!" or "Had to unfriend so and so on Facebook!" I'd be a rich man.
